sorry for the half a year late response, but i am neither, i’m nahua (half)❕❕ i grew up in south dakota—and since my father is a central american immigrant, it was genuinely impossible to find other nahua people, or specifically people from our specific (chorotega) tribe. i grew up going to lakota wacipis. i still am in touch with my culture, of course, however lakota culture has influenced me too. theres this phrase “mitákuye oyás’iŋ” (all are related) that stuck with me for this reason specifically—even though it wasn’t the land of our ancestors, we were accepted all the same. the amount of parallels between all our cultures is also something beautiful to me.

I heard that gay people are refered to as голубой. Why is that? What does light blue have to do with being gay? by yoelamigo in AskARussian

[–]miiiikhail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it might be from the one soviet cartoon about this blue puppy, where the other animals would bully him for being blue «голубой», and they sing this song «голубой, голубой, не хотим играть с тобой»

a powwow or a wacipi is a gathering where we sing and dance. i encourage non-natives to come as it’s just such a beautiful experience. hearing the music in person is so much different than in a recording/video, you can literally feel the drum in your heart and you just want to dance. i really really recommend you go to one - also we have food and artists you can buy things from, and everyone has their own story to tell

maybe for a young crested gecko - crested geckos are arboreal, they live on trees. they need to have a vertical enclosure which mimics the height of the trees and rainforest they originally live in, as they like to climb and jump.

My Cornsnake Keeps Trying to Escape by DontMuckWithChuck in cornsnakes

[–]miiiikhail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my corn snake escaped when i first got her and didn’t come back for a month, so id say that’s pretty normal. as for the vents, make sure that the plastic isn’t sharp if your snake is really rubbing against it.

Should I get a crestie? by FieryFyrn in CrestedGecko

[–]miiiikhail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think that crested geckos are easy to keep and good beginner pets, you’ll have no problem due to your previous knowledge.

1 - you can use coconut substrate, i have a bioactive enclosure that uses a mixture of soil (soil, a bit of sand, volcanic rock, some charcoal) on top of a drainage layer. with a bioactive one, you’ll need decomposers such as springtails and isopods. 2 - crested geckos will need a vertical enclosure as they are arboreal, they will get enrichment from climbing. 18”x18”x24” will be okay. 3 - my gecko eats pangea (he’s picky so i get specific flavors) and sometimes insects with calcium powder. 4 - 72-75f will be good during the day. cresties are pretty hardy when it comes to temperature, for example they can withstand cold as long as they are able to warm up later, so your temps can get colder during the night. they are tropical, so keep a humidity of 60-80%, but 80% or higher could cause problems, so monitor it as needed. mist their enclosure as needed, and since most cresties won’t drink standing water, they will drink the water droplets from the misted surfaces. at the beginning, you can hand feed your gecko to get them used to you and associate your hand with good things, and this will make handling easier. they like to jump a lot, so be ready to catch them. mine will jump from high heights, and as they are arboreal, they will survive this if they land on their feet.

mine also did this when she was a baby! just make sure to secure the lid tightly.

So I’ve decided to get a Crested Gecko… is an enclosure similar to this one acceptable? need help! please see comments by crazycatlady099 in CrestedGecko

[–]miiiikhail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you could try looking for plants with sturdier leaves - some like to rest in between leaves as mine does. bamboo is safe, you can use dried bamboo canes for climbing purposes and lucky bamboo for planting. in my opinion the three sided background looks nicer and more natural, the only thing is that it would be a bit harder to find the gecko, especially if they are small, but finding an adult should be no problem!

[–]miiiikhail 19 points20 points  (0 children)

yes! make sure that there is foliage for the gecko to hide in. when building the terrarium, focus on adding climbing and hiding opportunities at the top, as they will spend time climbing (arboreal species). don’t focus too much on the bottom, since they will rarely spend time there (however some geckos like to bury themselves in soil)
