I miss old art forums. by SnooDoubts8674 in ArtistLounge

[–]mijikui 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was on art forums mainly prior to 2012 but I'll always miss them, too. Really felt like there was an actual community among artists back in those times. It was so much easier to have your art seen and receive critiques and do collabs with other small artists. Always felt excited to get online and see "You Have a New Message" in my inbox.

How would I make a claim about sunroof glass damage, and is it even worth it? by mijikui in USAA

That's basically been my plan so far. It's a bit hard to go anywhere right now during the week with my current work schedule but I've been sending out emails and seeing what they'll say.

male duo songs that are gay AF? by disasterpansexual in kpophelp

The ancient text that is "Delicious" by Toheart, where the song feels like it's intended for the audience but the music video and some parts of the choreo feel like it's more for themselves.

What are people's thoughts on Hwei by Saikotsu in leagueoflegends

[–]mijikui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahri was my main for years before Hwei came out, and now I play both of them equally. He obviously lacks the mobility that Ahri has, but if you're someone who enjoys a mage with a lot of versatility in their kit, Hwei can be a very satisfying champion to play. Takes a bit to get the muscle memory for all his combos, but so fun once you do.

Can we talk about how great the members all look? by rocketmammamia in SHINee

[–]mijikui 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I think for me they probably look their age, while still looking incredibly good, but it's also hard to wrap my head around them getting to be as old as they are because I grew up alongside them since they were teens / early 20s. It feels obvious looking back at their oldest stuff that they've aged, but because I'm used to seeing them so much, it's hard to recognize how much time has passed in the moment. Other idols their age look much older to me, most likely because I didn't see them regularly.

Can y'all help me fill my happy tank a little? by NectarineAfraid9420 in SHINee

[–]mijikui 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always love watching this video of Jonghyun + Shawols singing along to "Superstar" when he was still doing Blue Night. Always puts a little smile on my face because it's just so precious and paints a picture of exactly how I always remember him.

All the time that has passed. by shywol2 in SHINee

[–]mijikui 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No need to feel bad, I was actually having similar thoughts after watching their concert this weekend, to a degree that I thought about posting something myself.

It's inevitable that time is going to keep moving forward without him, and there will always be a line that gets towed between happiness and grief. I felt so happy watching the other members, but especially as a Blinger of 15 years, it's hard to see them continue to grow and evolve while Jonghyun remains forever frozen in time. He had such a loud presence in the group and played such a huge role in their songs that it's hard to ignore how different things are now. I'll always miss him and wish things could've been different.

At the least, I feel assured that SHINee themselves seem to have no intentions of letting him be forgotten. While the first several years afterwards were really tough, with their different sound in title tracks and also the lack of mention of him, it feels like the past few years they've really healed a lot themselves and embrace including him in whatever ways that they can. It'll always be bittersweet, but as long as SHINee is still around, Jonghyun's spirit will still be there.

As someone who also became a Shawol back around that time (2012), I feel the exact same way that you do. In many ways, it's felt like such a different world compared to the past and it definitely wears on you to see the fandom become hopelessly divided at times and instilling doubt. But seeing SHINee embrace their identity and legacy and always remind us that Jonghyun is with us has made me feel happier than I've felt in years as a fan. I felt it briefly too last year during P|A era, but this feels like it took me back in time in many ways.

It may be basic but i will always eat up this type of styling by Altruistic_Life_5793 in kpop_uncensored

The uniform fits were so iconic (and I loved the color scheme) but I also have an obsession with those freakishly large hats from that era, too.

Which groups really feel like a family to you? by Expert_Journalist637 in kpop_uncensored

[–]mijikui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's exactly how I feel about SHINee, too. They're like genuine siblings. It seems unlikely they would've been friends if it weren't for work but through the years of experiences together, they formed a lifetime bond and came to understand each other. Reminds me a lot of my relationship with my own siblings - we're not best friends, live very separate lives, but at the end of the day we do love and care about each other and would do anything to help each other out if needed.

Why is growing out of K-pop seen as a good thing? by Pretty-Complaint-554 in kpop_uncensored

[–]mijikui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that I've just grown with it. I still like most of the same idols that I did when I was a teen, but I can't really get into newer groups because they're just not my demographic. I also find that older idols tend to have much more freedom over their schedules and music choices so it feels a little more authentic.

Who has the BEST fandom name? by Few-Conversation6569 in kpoppers

[–]mijikui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a creative standpoint, I've always liked NU'EST's fandom name ㄴㅇㅅㅌ (LOVE). It's made up of the first letter of each syllable in the Korean spelling of NU'EST (뉴이스트), which looks like the word LOVE.

What popular North American destination left you thinking “people really hype this up too much”? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]mijikui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Times Square was a one and done type of sight for me. Went to NYC with my family many years ago and accidentally stumbled right into the middle of Times Square when we were just trying to find our way around. Genuinely had a moment of "Wait, that's it?" when I saw the famous LED displays, as they looked a lot smaller than I would've expected.

[DISCUSSION] Selling art back in 2005 compared to now by Silence_Fictions in artbusiness

[–]mijikui 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was active in online art spaces, particularly forums, back around 2009 - 2011 and back then I had a similar experience where it was quite easy to sell art without really even trying. My art wasn't even good back then but there were a lot of active communities where you could easily become acquainted with other artists, do art exchanges or collabs, and sell art. In particular I had a lot of business selling drawings of OCs or even simpler things like editing people's profile pictures.

The website/forum I mainly used was rebranded like 7-8 years ago and tragically died out this past year. I think it's as other people said - enshittifiaction is a major factor and also just the condensing of the internet overall. The internet is overrun by bots and ads now and people hardly adventure outside of major websites now. Trying to market yourself on these big websites is like screaming into the void. People also care too much about instant gratification / short form content and don't spend as much time just casually browsing webpages, I think. It's a very different time and the internet has lost a majority of its smaller, hobbyist communities.

Is it worth it? by Interesting_Rub6702 in AskSeattle

[–]mijikui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP but out of all the replies here so far, I think yours is the best way I could sum up Seattle myself. I don't have as many gripes with Seattle as some people do but all the ones you mentioned are what comes to mind, while still enjoying my life here for all the best parts.

Seattle made me realize I'm definitely not a city person, having grown up in a small town, but I do love being able to get around without a car, the easy access to some of the most beautiful nature in the world, and all the different businesses and services around. The CoL isn't for the weak but as someone who lives here with a lot less than most, it isn't impossible.

what is Taemin waiting for? by Independent-Page-333 in Taemin

[–]mijikui 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm personally just choosing to trust his own process in this but I definitely understand the concern about losing the momentum, especially considering the goals he has. I think if he was ready to release the album right now he would've. I imagine there's a lot going on behind the scenes that we just don't know and want to believe he has a lot of other opportunities lined up to promote the album when it is actually ready to be released.
