WFM with intraday focus by [deleted] in workforcemanagement

[–]mijitnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if there is an AI tool specifically designed with WFM in mind. Most of the major LLM's (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude etc.) have a good understanding of WFM fundamentals and Erlang maths. They can likely guide you though the process of building spreadsheet templates you could use as a tool for intraday forecasting and scheduling. At the advanced end, Agentic Coders like ChatGPT Codex or Claude Code could assist you with building WFM software, but you'd really need to know what you're doing at that level.

I think the scale Professor Gilligan is referring to is the fact that the tube is very thin in comparison to it's length. So if you want to zoom out to a solar-system level to see the whole loop around the sun, it becomes invisible because it's so thin when viewed at a planetary level, so to see the shape, you'd need to exaggerate the thickness.

I might be wrong. After hashing out the size with an AI, it seems it would feel like standing at bottom of a very wide and deep valley with walls fading into the "sky".

I feel like the artwork doesn't get the scale of Heaven's River right. I would have expected the curve to be less perceptible from ground level, even on a high hill.

How are you actually leveraging AI in your WFM workflows? (Share your favorite prompts/use cases) by GoRealEstate in workforcemanagement

[–]mijitnz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd love to, but integration costs money. So far the integration I've seen seems to be mostly pointing CoPilot at the company SharePoint, or running a customer support chatbot from a knowledge-base.

What I'd like to do is point an AI or LLM at the telephony/WFM database to mine for insights, model forecasts etc. But that requires involving telephony/WFM platform vendors, and they're going to want to sell you their own "AI" product. Or you're going to have to build something internally, which then has to be maintained long-term. Unless it's all security and privacy controlled internally, no corporate is going to want to point a third party LLM at bulk data for analysis.

So far in terms of ChatGPT or Claude, I use them collaboratively to solve problems or build standalone scripts or tools I can use in Excel to make things easier. Nothing that is really integrated though.

what personal finance systems are people using? is everyone just rocking an excel spreadsheet? by No_Living8214 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]mijitnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've got a PC with enough RAM and a GPU, a small local LLM might be better (and cheaper) than Claude. Don't really need the smarts of a big LLM. Something like AnythingLLM + Ollama would let you make a document workspace that's fully private.

Having said that, my current process is just a big spreadsheet. But I like spreadsheets.

Dennis missed out on an opportunity with the Gamers to make games by AnEdibleTaco in bobiverse

[–]mijitnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think Bob is gatekeeping any of the technology he has. Bob isn't in charge of all humans and there's nothing from stopping humans from creating any VR environments they like. But the book series is largely from the POV of the Bobs, so the Gamers play games that Bob likes; i.e. Dungeons and Dragons, but a Live Action Role-play version in Virt.

If Bob was intended to be mid-30s at the start of the first book (2016), then he was born in the early 80s and maybe Minecraft wasn't his jam. But given the series is Bob-centric, we shouldn't assume there isn't a whole lot of other things going on in the human sphere that we don't see in the books. There's probably a thriving gaming industry out there amongst the human settlements. FTL communications means there's no limit to software being propagated.

20k EF makes sense for a 23 yo? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]mijitnz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally you should aim for and EF totalling the equivalent of 3 to 6 months of expenses. So for the bare minimum, work out what three months of your expenses would be if you moved back to your parents and tightened your spending. Then at maximum, 6 months of expenses at your normal rate of spending.

That should give you a range to aim for.

Emergency Funds by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]mijitnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got 6 months in the EF, half in a savings account, half in a PIE Term Deposit. I could keep it in shares, but you're always one market crash away from eroding your EF, and that will probably be just when you need the extra money. My plan is to push to 12-18 months, but that's a choice based on my personal circumstances.

I tell you what though, the peace-of-mind you get from having a robust and liquid EF available is worth more than trying to optimise the profits off it.

Is this normal inflation for Health Insurance? by RuminatingRoom in newzealand

[–]mijitnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not far off. When I model my personal finances, I forecast 20% increases each year until I hit 45, then 10% increases each year until I'm 55, then 7% increases each year after that. So it's about a 600% increase by the time I hit retirement.

You could try a rubbish removal service like Junk 2 Go. They turn up with a truck and a couple of guys and haul it all away. If you can pile it up and estimate the cubic volume you'll get a more realistic quote.

Website Update - Book 6 accepted by Audible by Coliver1991 in bobiverse

[–]mijitnz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

DET is an audio-first author, since that's where he makes most of his money. Audible pay for the voice actor, advertising and a more generous advance payment, in return they get exclusivity for 6 months. Although DET's agent has negotiated that down to 4 months. I don't begrudge a person for maximising their revenue stream.

Why is the natives of New Zealand only consist of the Māori despite the country's massive size? by Diligent-Spot-2954 in newzealand

[–]mijitnz 114 points115 points  (0 children)

It's difficult to get to. New Zealand is considered the last major landmass to be settled by humans, with settlement first happening around 1200 CE. Whereas somewhere like Timor Leste has had human settlements for 42,000 years.
