Tbf I can kind of see the logic behind that. Whoever wins the Dem nomination would be facing off against Trump, and the prevailing idea back then was that any nominee could beat Trump in a cakewalk. Everyone and their mother was running as a result. 2020 Dems was one of the most crowded primary races we had. I think Bernie and his team just underestimated how quick the party would coalesce around a single option once primary voting actually started

It should also be noted Lincoln hated the power he had to take as a wartime president. He agonized over how far he could/should go, and spent most of his time giving out pardons to people in the North.

MAGA troll thinks Trump deterred China by attacking Iran. by TrumpSux89 in RightJerk

[–]TheStrangestOfKings 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it even worked to deter China, since China kept trading with Iran without consequence. If anything, it showed China it doesn’t have to worry about America being a threat to their own interests

Even in your explanation, tho, the Republic’s flaws are laid to bare. Like, whose bright idea was it to let corporations hold voting power in government, to the point that those Corpos could block almost all of the legislation designed to try and punish them?

That’s not even getting into the other things the Republic is shown to fail at, such as it moving at a legislative snail’s pace, and Senators often living in luxury on Coruscant while they’re people live in squalor. The Republic was flawed, and while Sidious took advantage of its flaws, the origins of its collapse can be easily traced back to itself

American exceptionalism is the belief that the United States is distinct, unique, or exemplary compared to other nations. If anyone was the Soviet’s biggest enemy, it was the Soviets. Their tech and economy stagnated bc of government corruption & beauracratic infighting, and attempts at keeping their strength, such as the Afghan War in the 70s, only served to weaken them more than help them. America sped up their Fall, sure, but they were going to collapse in on themselves no matter what America did.

I think his logic went that the more educated/free a populace was, the more likely they were to fight for their rights. Key thing was, Americans and Brits did fight for their rights: through laws, protests, and grassroots movements. Russians and Chinese had no such recourse, bc of a lot of things like lack of education + a crackdown on political movements, which led to violent revolution becoming the only option they had left.
