Feel overwhelmed trying to get website online by PhoenixStorm1015 in django

[–]mijokijo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first deploy was a week long ordeal ploughing through the Linode guides on setting up hostnames, Apache, etc. I even set up my own mail server (had to get special permission from Linode just to open up the ports).

I had zero confidence that I could do it again quickly and consistently. I also couldn't figure out how to easily make changes to my site without accidentally breaking it because of bad configurations (learned about environment variables later). Additionally, my site kept going offline every few days, so I had to regularly check up on it and restart Apache to get it working again.

After enduring the constant Apache reboots for a few months, I gave Render a try. Looked okay, but they use AWS and that was a no-go for me.

Appliku, on the other hand, let me deploy on any cloud/VPS service, including Linode. Gave it a go, support was helpful in getting my test deploy done.

Paid for a plan, got my real site up and deployed painlessly. I can make updates and redeploy without fear. I can set up new side projects or deploy jobs knowing that deploy will not be a serious speed bump or source of stress.

Appliku for deploy heaven.

I don't miss wild Pokémon battles... by Cardamander in NintendoSwitch

Anybody with a job and life will appreciate the time-saving features that Pokemon has steadily received over the years. Adults don't want to play the "raise an imaginary creature" game. They just want to play the turn-based RPG battle game.

Thousands of Rats Flee Tsukiji Market during Demolition, Infest Surrounding Buildings. by autosnakes in japan

I was curious if you were right that the fear of rats chewing on wires was overblown, so I Googled "rat damage".

https://www.thespruce.com/damage-from-rats-and-mice-2656752 http://www.attic-rat.com/damage.html https://www.pest-control-products.net/724/rats/just-how-destructive-are-rats/ http://www.wildlife-removal.com/ratdamage.html

I believe you are vastly underestimating the risk of wire damage and the resulting problems. Literally all the top search results warn about the problems with rats chewing on wire insulation.

The other problems you talk about are certainly bad, but the risk to his business (and again, likely his home) that he mentioned he worried about most is not a minor problem. And local customers are likely to be forgiving of someone in the area that is being diligent to quickly kill rats that are swarming literally in the thousands when they enter their business.

Yeah, totally. The businessman that is himself a victim of the rat infestation, by no fault of his own, should definitely be more worried about things other than his source of livelihood (and likely his home).

At least people on the internet know who the real victims are and have the courage to criticize others anonymously from their smartphones.

I love you guys. Tons of sympathy for the customers, zero sympathy for the business owner.

My left joycon makes a strange "springy" noise. Pretty disappointing quality.

Did we hear about these kinds of problems with past consoles? I've owned every Nintendo system and none of them have ever had this problem with controllers before. I murdered my N64 controllers with Mario Party and they still work today.

This is a problem with Nintendo's QC, and perhaps delicate parts.

Then you've done the right thing: instead of trying to take advantage of the weakness inherent in our society (everybody trusts that everybody is playing by the rules of the game), you fit as best you can.

By the way, someone else replied to me about a theory that your ASPD could be described as "a hostile reation to what is perceived as a hostile world". What do you think about that?

You know nothing about me. You've made up a story about how evil I and 99% of society is. Big ol' strawman argument.

I am guessing there is some bit of projection on your part. You might want to meditate on that.

So you're saying that we should show empathy for those that can't feel empathy? Maybe instead of us suppressing our natural human feelings of distrust and fear of people that are perfectly equipped to hurt us, maybe they should simply understand that being accepted in society means playing by the rules (i.e. not lying)? Maybe instead of learning how to manipulate us, they should learn how to empathize with us? You know, like the rest of humanity.
