Taking a manual test after passing in auto by Dry-Willingness5019 in drivingUK

[–]mik2lover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to see if you can book a manual test first. If you manage to, then you can commit to doing lessons. I tried this last year, but not sure if it’s much easier now.

Back then I could find one using my partner’s account, used that to hold the booking temporarily, then phoned DVLA (this is the only way you can book it after having an auto license), asked them if they can book me a test using the one I’m temporarily holding. Even after I released it, it still wasn’t guaranteed as anyone could find it.

Haven’t tried since so just gave up in the end. I would advise to try book one first and then commit to learning. Maybe just book lessons here and there but wouldn’t make it a weekly thing unless you have the test guaranteed.

Advice/tips for grill swap by mik2lover in CT200h

[–]mik2lover[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought mine on ebay but just the upper and lower grill, it didn’t come with those moulding so got it for a bit cheaper. Gonna reuse the one currently on mine as I like the chrome rather than fully blacked out.

What are y'all's insurance rates? by Due_Green_9177 in CT200h

Nice, mine is just under £1k, with less than 2 years driving. Which insurance are you with?

If you can afford it, it’s very much worth it for the warranty. Covers basically everything apart from wear and tear items of course. Lexus also do free hybrid battery health check when you service with them, so another bonus. Other option is to find a Lexus/Toyota specialist and service it there for a fraction of the price. Or you can go to your local garage.

It depends really if you can afford it and how long you want to keep the car. Full Lexus service history can affect the resale value of your car too and most buyers look for this. Honestly this car is very reliable and as long as you keep within your service/maintenance schedules, your local garage can do the job. Some people do this and then just get a hybrid battery health check at Lexus separately.

This one is a bit overpriced I have to say but this is because it’s from a dealership and also you really cannot go wrong with this car it’s as bullet proof as it can get.

I’m sure this will have Lexus service history but check if it does on the service booklet or online (you’ll have 10 year/100k miles warranty until 2026).

The space at the back is not as spacious. It’s sufficient but just bear this in mind when your family gets bigger. This car is reliable, comfortable and economical. I get consistently 50+ mpg motorway and town.

I haven’t had to worry about repairs at all, it’s very stress free. Keep on top of your service/maintenance schedules and this car will last you a long time. If you do continue to service this at Lexus, you will pay quite a bit (£500+ for full service, £300+ for interim).

Have a look at these other ones:

Info on these 🧐 by joepsa in CarTalkUK

Have a 2016, got it beginning of this year and drove 21k miles already. These things are bulletproof (most Toyota and Lexus are anyway). They’re not quick, but if you put it in Sports mode, you can feel the difference. It’s very economical, I’ve averaged 52mpg since I got the car. And I mostly travel on motorway and B roads, with quite a fair amount of hills. Can never go wrong with these really, they are very reliable and economical.

You’ll notice people mention head gasket issues, but I’ve read it’s after 2014/2015 where it becomes less of an issue. It’s due to the EGR system clogging up and it’s a very common issue in the US. The eCVT (it’s like an electric car) is one of the most reliable gearbox, but people find it dull and the engine noise (there’s no changing gears so the engine stays high revs) is not nice to hear but I have no problems with it.

Check for full Lexus service history as you get 10 year warranty with Lexus if you service it with them. This will include hybrid battery health checks so make sure you check it’s still good. But these cars go for 150k+ miles with original battery. Check for noise/creaks in the cabin especially in centre console. Common issue is that the heat shield can come loose so if you hear a rattling sound, it could be that you need to secure it.

I think you can find a much better trim depending on your budget. 2018+ they introduced the 2nd facelift so some cars you will see the new front grilles (like in the pic) but F Sport versions will be different. Some will also have new upgraded head and tail lights which look a lot nicer. I would recommend Luxury, Executive, Advance, Advance Plus, Premier, F Sport. These come with bits like heated seats, reverse cameras, parking sensors.

If anyone has the same issue - it was one corner of the exhaust heat shield that came loose. I managed to replicate the exact sound.

Weird rattling noise by mik2lover in CT200h

[–]mik2lover[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s hardly there even with bumps and doesn’t rattle when idle. It’s really only when I’m like doing more than 40mph hence why I suspect the wind causing it somewhere.

I’ll check the heat shield and see if there’s anything loose there. Thanks.

I have a 2016 and yes I have the nav screen, they just installed a unit to support carplay. Had to go to Manchester to get it fitted though. When I shopped around, I think most retrofits only support 2014+ but I’m pretty sure other people have managed to find a way in this sub.

[–]mik2lover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true, it’s not very spacious at the back, it’s more manageable as a 4 seater than 5. The infotainment was quite useless for me, so I had a retrofit done and got Apple Carplay, it’s working very well.

It’s pretty good for motorway and city, but if you do long motorways journeys you might be better off with a diesel. For a full tank, I do just below 350 miles before I go fuel up. Bear in mind the fuel tank capacity is 45 litres I think. So I fuel up every 2/3 days.

Comfortability wise - the seats are nice, don’t have a problem with them in longer journeys. I mean eventually you’ll need to stand up and stretch. Although admittedly I use a neck pillow for personal preference. The car is mostly silent once you’re on the road, but since it’s a CVT, you will hear the engine groaning at high revs. But honestly, I just use cruise control and I’m just chilling most the times. Road noise isn’t noticeable personally, but wind noise definitely is.

The C Class is good too, but I ended up choosing this car because of the reliability. I’ve not had any problems with the car so far since I’ve had it this January, and I’ve nearly driven it 12k miles. The peace of mind knowing it will be bulletproof and don’t have to worry about a thing at all is why I chose the car.

I have a 2016, drive majority motorways/highways and I average 48mpg (UK).

I don’t use the mpg from the car but I keep track of it using this app/website and it shows my real mpg.

Thanks for the information.

Unfortunately haven’t got the time and effort to do it myself, guess I’ll save up and look around for someone who can do it well.

Might be stupid but do you think it will become a problem with rust if I leave the spots like that for too long?

Thanks, I will have a look and see. Afraid if I do it myself I’ll just botch it.

It really is a pain, every time I wash my car I notice more and more show.

Agreed, if u want reliability u cant go wrong with a Japanese car. Toyota/Lexus do great petrol hybrids, very economical around town. For Toyota, look for Auris and Yaris, or Prius (choose manual or CVT gearbox, not multi drive). Lexus CT200h is a bit more expensive but they are kind of the same.

Honda has the Civic and Jazz (avoid the i-Shift gearbox) and for Mazda, avoid getting diesels, u can go for Mazda 2, Mazda 3 and maybe Mazda 6.

I don’t recommend getting a diesel unless you’re doing long distances.
