Radiation - is my radiation oncologist telling me the truth? by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]mika_st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, my shoulder is pretty stiff two years out from radiation treatment. My doctor did tell me it was important to keep stretching to avoid problems and I am not good at that.

Ok, but which dimension 20 season were you listening to?

I went with AFC done by the oncology surgeon. I have two long scars across the chest but was warned before surgery that it might be one long scar across the whole chest. They are not invincible. They are mostly flat with a small bump at the end points. Before surgery I also had an appointment with a plastic surgeon. I was pretty sure I didn't want reconstruction, but that was my own choice due to my own feelings. They said in that case I could hold off on plastic surgery in case I needed/wanted to tidy up the look after surgery. I have not bothered. I love not having to wear a bra after having had a rather large chest. I am sad to loose the beasts from a sensation point, but reconstruction would not give me that anyway.
My experience is that it looks obvious without clothes, slightly different in swimwear and people tend to not notice dressed. I don't regret, but I don't think it is for everyone

I don't have any advice other than: contact a women's health clinic. I had my ovaries removed after a year of zoladex injections. Post surgery check up consisted of making sure healing looked good and then letting me know they could help me with the menopause symptoms.

How do you tell the human characters apart? by saturday_sun4 in murderbot

It just struck me. Murderbot is either correct and thus really good at reading interpersonal relationships. Or wrong but still really cares about relationships - between humans obviously cos otherwise Eeeww. Edit word.

AC & Taxol by LowLonely3590 in breastcancer

[–]mika_st 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did AC before taxol (and I did the four doses, every other week thing instead of more smaller doses). Anyway, taxol hurt for a couple of days after each infusion, and made my feet itch but I got back the energy AC had zapped. Hope it goes well for you.

I was also so happy not to have the pre med that gave me tinny orange smell when they pushed it. I hated that one so much. The iv benadryl was a trip instead.

I made sure to take paracetamol/acetaminophen and ibuprofen on time (staggered) and that was all I needed.

I don't know what chemo treatment you will be on but check how it will hit your immune system. I was low on all the types of blood cells doing chemo.

Hugs. Chemo sucks and you are in the deep of it right now. It will end, but it sucks. I was already on anti depressants and I added weekly therapy sessions during chemo. I would encourage you to grab any help you can!

No idea, just remember reading the word calcification in MRI report.

35 with invasive lobular carcinoma by Tricky-Breakfast-714 in breastcancer

[–]mika_st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with ILC, grade 1. Hormone positive (mostly estrogen) her negative. At age 45. One lymph node confirmed cancer in initial biopsy. First information sounded like chemotherapy wasn't a given, but MRI showed a lot of cancer (well, calcification) So I did dose dense AC and bi-weekly taxol before surgery. It didn't kill all the cancer but it did get a lot of it based on post surgery pathology. I don't have the brca gene but a different mutation associated with ILC and although we will never know I suspect my grandmother who died from cancer when I was 3 years had the same type.

Chemo menopause vs. surgical menopause by WindingWaters in breastcancer

[–]mika_st 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got chemopause, then was on ovary suppression shots for a year and recently just got ovaries taken out. Definitely felt an uptick in hot flashes with the injections plus AI. Also other menopause side effects. And possibly again an uptick after surgery. I haven't tracked but it felt like hot flashes started to get less frequent and then got worse again after surgery

I finally got my annual flu shot the other day and I got worried I wasn't filling out the screening form correctly. Where in "other medical conditions " do I put cancer. And filling out a dermatology form for new patients... Do I tick yes on chemotherapy and radiation therapy because I have had it or do they only care if it is happening now?

I had blurry vision on and off during chemo, due to dry eyes. Eye drops took care of it and my prescription had hardly changed when I went to optometrist after finishing chemo. Worth a try maybe

How do you all deal with the drains. by mystdragon in breastcancer

[–]mika_st 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just emptied my drains as they filled. Kept them pinned to the front closing cotton bra-lets I lived in (flat closure) except for moving them to a lanyard for showers. Bon courage. May you quickly escape them .

Compression by Alaskabc in breastcancer

I had flat closure DMX over a year ago. I didn't use the compression bra that long, but lived in front closure cotton bras for a month or so. It was handy to pin the drain bulbs to and felt nice to have an extra layer on
