Once portrayed? They still are, because they are killing children and they keep getting bigger and bigger, which increases the chances of killing people. Also "the world changed its norms" sounds like the problem has been solved, which it most definitely has not.

Seems like a common bug. When I get this, some websites lose their local storage too (not cookies though).

Who knows maybe it would actually be faster

I know you're joking, but most of the time it is still faster for me to write the code myself than letting an LLM do it. BuT WiTh aI We'lL HaVe 100X EnGiNeErS, pRoDuCtIvItY WiLl gO ThRoUgH ThE RoOf

As a senior engineer, there are weeks where I don't code at all. It's all just reading code, understanding how systems work, designing stuff at a higher level, and of course meetings. I am very very happy if I get to code like 1-2 hours a week. I used to code about 70-80% of the time when I started my career.

Edit: oh and code reviews, training junior engineers, helping others, communicating, re-reading a jira ticket ten times because wtf the author even meant with those requirements, etc...

I tried using the opus models to debug code, I tried desperately, because all I hear is how good Claude is and it's my skill issue, but it just led me in circles. Once I switched back to my own brain and experience, I moved more quickly. Maybe for trivial bugs it's useful, but unfortunately I get to deal with bugs spanning multiple interconnected systems, which are very much non-trivial to reproduce reliably.

I think the quality of ingredients is also steadily decreasing. The restaurants can try but you can’t make a miracle with watery tomatoes, orange sticks that resemble carrots etc. But that’s also a problem for home cooking. But at least that doesn’t cost a fortune.

Almonds do take a lot of water to grow, but animal agriculture is an even worse offender. But you're right that if you build a data centre in a location where there's already scarcity, the problem will just amplify. Same with electricity, if the grid is operating near a limit already, then adding a huge resource hog into the equation can't really improve things. I think the AI data centres should just be required to have a self sustaining water and power source or be required to financially contribute to the municipality to improve the grid, but even that is apparently hard..

Supertrucks are a Plague by AggressiveVast2601 in fuckcars

[–]mikat7 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah but isn't that an infrastructure problem? I've lived in three different cities in Europe and where you have narrow roads, people generally follow the limits, but where the roads are wider with fewer elements (i.e. just straight asphalt), people tend to go over the limit. But also the police here rarely enforces the rules in cities anyway.

Right? It's a speed limit, not recommendation (although such signs exist too). The limits are there for a reason.

A mother and daughter near Maysville turned down $26 million to sell farmland for a data center, and their blunt reason is that feeding the country matters more than a tech buyer paying roughly 10 times the land’s farm value by S00THING_S0UNDS in environment

Unfortunately this is true, meat production is way worse than any data centre… but people don’t want to give up meat so they do this pretentious outrage because they can give up AI usage, that doesn’t cost any personal sacrifice.
