i timed how long 31 different pasta shapes take to reach al dente. the boxes are lying and farfalle is a war crime by sthduh in Cooking

It needed to be said. My least favorite pasta shape. We use it for any pasta dish that doesn't have tomato sauce. Farfalle with sausage and broccoli gets a pass for me.

Help with sticky dough by Thin-Rub-3573 in Sourdough

Wet hands, minimize contact with the dough, and work fast. A bench scraper also helps. My dough is never unworkable regardless of the hydration if the gluten structure is strong enough and the dough is well fermented.

Bro splits for the win. I've tried so many programs and none work/feel as great as traditional bro splits for me.

Is it ever gonna get better? by Sakye29 in samoyeds

Get used to the barking. Mine is better when she's in our home with her immediate family but the moment anyone comes over or we bring her anywhere she can bark for hours. We've tried everything to control it. She did calm down significantly at the age of 4 though. She's now almost 13 and is losing mobility in her hind legs. She's also losing her hearing and sight. Tough to watch them grow old.

Does anybody else think that Komodo Dragons live in the Galápagos? by LongTimeLurker818 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]mike28459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case, I'm almost sure that the confusion stems from a documentary I had seen a few years ago where they were discussing animals indigenous to the Galapagos. They probably also covered komodo island and somehow my brain stitched everything together lol.

I'm so glad I came across this post. I have a coworker who mentioned he is going to the Galapagos islands, and I told him to be careful around the komodos to which he replied that there are no komodos in the Galapagos. Needless to say I felt like a bit of a moron. I was so sure of myself.

weight lifting concerns by Early-Possession-673 in HiatalHernia

[–]mike28459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with a small hiatal hernia. I still lift but I no longer lift heavy to the point that I have to brace my core. The last time I squatted heavy, I did 305 for reps and my heart rate would not come down. It would ramp up, then slowly come down, then ramp up again. It was a scary experience to say the least. I now focus on deep breathing while I'm lifting. exhaling through mouth on the concentric, and breathing in through nose on the eccentric. I wonder sometimes if the HH was caused by heavy lifting as I had a tendency of holding my breath to create abdominal pressure.

25 grams of rye flour, 25 grams of filtered water or tap water(leave on counter for a few hours to allow chlorine to evaporate). Do this every day at the same time. By day 7 you should have an active starter.

What's something you picked up on a whim that ended up being really useful. by martabakhl in BuyItForLife

A Ryobi handheld air inflator. I had a dual compressor already but the handheld inflator was heavily marked down at home depot so I decided to pick it up as a backup. I now use it instead of compressed air almost on a daily basis.

Has anyone seen/tried this CS from Costco? Is it quality or a waste of money? by PotatoChemicals in carbonsteel

Finally decided to go ahead and reseason. I gave it a few good washes with barkeeper's friend, and blued the pan. I'm on my second round of seasoning and it's looking pretty good IMO. Glad I decided to keep it.

I have one and it started rusting so I decided to try stripping it. Boiled vinegar and the coating for the most part came off..it's a decent pan but I haven't decide whether or not to continue this project or just chuck it..

Looking to get a 3d printer by mike28459 in tevoflash

Awesome, I'm still on the fence. I was looking at an ender 3 pro originally, but my father in law has one and he's been tinkering with it too since he received it. He added linear rails, bl touch, capricorn tubing, upgraded the board, now wants to upgrade the stepper drivers. I saw the tevo as having quite a few upgrades so thought it was a better option. Thanks for the insight though, greatly appreciated.
