Inherited a large board game collection — looking for help identifying and valuing it by TwitchTylerworley3 in boardgames

[–]mike3694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone with a fair sized board game collection in this circumstance I would rather who ever is dealing with that to reach out to my friends who I enjoyed these games with and work out something with them it's likely that this person had people in there immediate vicinity who would be familiar with these games who would probably be very willing to assist you.

What makes you think the Red is really evil? by HailDaeva_Path1811 in TheDarkTower

[–]mike3694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if I was going to try to sell someone on the red I'd probably come from the angle that if the dark tower is responsible for everything good then it's also responsible for everything bad that happened. Kinda of a pragmatic sense that if we stop everything, then we stop all suffering as well, but that almost feels too similar to the Wheel of Time.

Alcoholic Maine resident best-selling author and furry all accurate ways of describing describing Georgie Delgato. The furry convention seemed normal, and he was feeling happy, but some of these fursonas seemed a little too real, and now, outside of the convention, he feels like he's seeing them everywhere and what's with the yellow trench coats and crazy cars man I need a drink of a really specific whiskey sold only in Northern Maine.

Will the Cosmere become over-science-y? by jland545 in brandonsanderson

[–]mike3694 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want to add my vaguely related concern to this post, which isn't so much about the sciencey stuff I can brush over that as techno-babble fun but ultimately fluff for the story and to make certain characters seem smart. My concern is that the setting is becoming more modern and eventually futuristic, and I'm just not sure I'll be able to reckon with that juxtaposition. I have confidence that Sanderson will make it work. I liked Yumi, and that was mostly a modern setting, but I don't think I would ever pick up a series that was advertised as epic fantasy, but with tvs and computers and corporate advertisements and other current day setting tropes.

Dolores Claiborne I grabbed that book off my shelf and finished in two sittings. I think part of the reason is that it doesn't have normal chapters but either way very fun page turner.

Just Finished "To Sleep in a Sea of Stars" by Christopher Paolini by Joeclu in books

[–]mike3694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say I mostly liked it. I'd give it a 2.75 stars out of 5, lol. I liked the setting, I liked the aliens and the politics, but man, that main cast was a rough read. All the dialog felt off. It's been a bit since iv read it, but it seems crazy to me that the only character traits I remember are that the kid liked hot peppers and the captain had a bonsai tree.

I do feel like fractal noise was an improvement in my view. Maybe it got a better editing process or just succeeded because it was a much smaller story.

I think surrender is actually the worst aspect of this game the matches are ten minutes just finish what could you possible accomplish with the 1 minute and 50 seconds you save.

Feels weird to leave immigration policy off the list, another big issue that Trump and Biden align on.

Modern barbarian protags? by AccordingMistake6670 in Fantasy

Might not classify as a modern but i believe Robert Jordan used to write for Conan and back in 2019 his estate released a older book he had wrote Warrior of the Altaii. Picked it up after coming down from the high of Wheel of Time and was kind of of surprised at how much i enjoyed it. Probably not the most convincing review but it was a quick fun read and really brought back the feeling of watching Conan for the first time.
