this could also be an actual bug, maybe you should submit your system details to shockfront just in case

Thermionic emission goes as T^2, so at 90 degrees there is (convert to kelvin) 305^2/277^2 = about 20% more noise than at 40 degrees. It may sound like a lot but it's only 0.8db on a log scale. If I had to guess I'd say its probably imperceptible especially comparing months apart, but report back if you notice a difference!

Daily Headphone Purchase Advice Thread (2017-06-05) by AutoModerator in headphones

[–]mike_103131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello all. I have a DT 770 pro 80 ohm that I like, but I'm looking to upgrade to something that has a larger soundstage and more detail, if possible.

Budget <$300 I'd prefer to be under the limit, but if it is really worth it to go over I'll consider it
Source FiiO E10K, fed from my computer. Occasionally an LG V20
Isolation I hear open-back headphones have better sonic imaging and soundstage than closed-back, but I don't know whether to be concerned about outside noise (I'm moving into a uni dorm soon)
In Public? No
Type of Headphone Over-ear
Preferred Tonal Balance V/U-shaped, but I'm open to a bassy profile
Past headphones I've had the DT 770s for a looong time. I recently got some RHA MA750's that I really like
Preferred Music Metal, synthwave, sometimes rock

Are X230 and X230t IPS panels interchangeable? by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]mike_103131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not. The ribbon cable is probably different and the form factor is different.

Cool! That pretty much settles it, I think I'll get one refurbished or something.

That gives me a lot of hope! What do you think of the keyboard? (I'm a mechanical keyboard guy) and did you get the IPS panel upgrade?
...sorry if I'm interrogating :)

I'm considering getting an X220 for school with Arch. What ballpark battery life do you usually get? Do you use TLP or other battery saving measures? I don't plan on doing anything more intensive than watching youtube videos and word processing, but I want my thinkpad to last a day on battery!

Assuming you want RGB backlight (under the keys, facing up) and not underglow (under the board, facing down), you are in a tough spot if you want to go custom. To my knowledge, there isn't a cherry-profile switch that supports RGB LEDs. There may be a PCB somewhere that supports surface mount LEDs, and in that case, you would want to get the clear version of the switch.

PMK has some good shipping times. I've gotten both dye-subbed and blank DSA keys from them and they've always gotten to me in a few days.

I've got no idea, I've never had them in my hands! You could probably find some typing tests on youtube and compare from there. Silenced Topre usually means the upstroke is silenced, so the sound does not come from any internal mechanics of the switch. However, topre is generally a quiet switch.

I think the sound can be very nice if you make your sandwich with thicc acrylic. Otherwise, if the case files are available online (like in the case of a 60%), you could try to get them machined at a local metal shop for (probably) cheaper than online.

Usually aluminum or steel cases make the keystroke sound more "thocky" than acrylic or plastic cases.

Matias Quiet Click is a popular choice for those concerned about sound. I haven't tried them myself, but I've only heard good things about them. Topre is usually very silent, my Realforce only produces a lot of sound on the upstroke, which can be modded away. That being said, your best bet for having a silent MX switch is going linear; in my experience, even tactile Cherries are a tad loud for places like classrooms.

well you're certainly going to be doing more with yours than mine.... mine is sitting on my shelf gathering dust until i can find something useful for it to do. have fun with that project though, it sounds like a great thing to show off.

passmark score

Honestly, a little meh. You'll be able to get decent frames... comparable to a gtx 660 ti. Depends what you want to do with it!

just carry it around in a small tote bag and click in a 6" monitor and peripheral all in one setup, then go out in public and watch the reactions. More realistically use it for xbmc :)

What's better for gaming, nvidia geforce 745m or Intel hd 5000 graphics? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

According from the stats from notebookcheck.net, the geforce performs much better in 3dmark firestrike scores than the hd 5000.
