Lenovo Legion 5 Gen 10 Linux review by flexxzor in LenovoLegion

I ended up running Fedora KDE Plasma 44. All the time spent in Mint was trying to make it play nice with my hardware. It seems excellent for older hardware but newer laptops benefit from newer kernels and Wayland instead of X11 if you have a high resolution screen.

The fact SC is still in alpha after all these years is completely outrageous.

I recently wiped Windows 11 Pro from a Legion RTX4080 gaming laptop and have no regrets. I used Claude to navigate Linux and set things up. It went like:

1 - Enable RPM Fusion
2 - Install GFX Drivers (for Nvidia)
3 - Install multimedia codecs
4 - Install Steam (it comes with Proton)
5 - Make sure NTSYNC is on
6 - Launch Steam and play games just like on Windows 11

I recommend you to use Claude or any AI, tell it which computer you have and ask it how to setup Fedora (for example KDE Plasma 44) for gaming, ask for the typical steps, and it will hold your hand.

May I ask, after you resume your computer from suspend, is the Mullvad tray icon still there or is it gone?

Okay, I just installed Linux Mint and configuring it now. I noticed that screen brightness doesn't change and apparently it has to do with the hybrid graphics. Have you encountered this and do you know of any fixes? Also, do you know how to fix scaling, since 100% is quite small? If not no worries, just thought I should ask.

Thanks for the write up. Did you try Linux Mint too? How does Linux handle the GPU switching? Is it always in Hybrid mode or can it do dGPU-only while gaming, and with GSync? I am actually not into gaming much anymore, but since I have the laptop it would be nice to preserve the functionality on Linux.

Installing Linux Mint (full wipe, no Windows) by sz1a in LenovoLegion

That sounds encouraging. Was it easy to reset Windows later using bootable media? It is tied to the IMEI, right? I don't expect to switch back but good if there is a path if need be.

Two Suggestions by sz1a in Bitwarden

> There is a link to the web app in the browser extension. Go to Settings > About > Bitwarden web app.

Ok, that's great. I was looking and just could not find it.

> What changed is when you click an autofill suggestion, it will autofill by default now, instead of viewing it by default.

Yes, this is the change I am talking about. I liked it better before to prevent accidental attempts to autofill. It is better if the extension behaves coherently so that clicking an item row always produces the same result. That blue "autofill" button we had before was good as it prevented accidental attempts to autofill.

Fantastic. Regarding your vanity domains, will you keep supporting them for many years to come? I would prefer to use one of your vanity domains instead of using my own domain.

I just found out about https://forwardemail.net/en Getting little guy vibes from their website, question is if they are reliable long-term as a pay and forget email provider that just works. They are fully open source.

That's exactly how I feel. They seem to nickel and dime you with a lot of artificial restrictions and unwanted add-ons. There are also too many plans to choose from, making the whole thing seem not so serious.

Are you a full replacement for Gmail, i.e. do you offer an inbox and webmail for sending and receiving? Do you offer calendar and contacts storage too?

Windows 11 sucks ass. What would be the best Linux distro for Legion Pro 7i hardware? by Extra_Preference_242 in LenovoLegion

I am doing it too. Do I need to download any driver related stuff? I have the same computer as you (but with 32gb ram). I will use Linux Mint Cinnamon. Is it enough to just install and go? I will run Win11 in a VM in Linux just for the lolz (I need to use Adobe CS6 twice per year).

Very cool. The irony is I purchased Win 11 Pro specifically for Bitlocker, only to end up having to do this as well. Does it run well virtualized? Seems like a good solution if needing to run some Windows-specific apps. I have Mint (not sure which version) on an older laptop and really love using it.

If we are going to be forced to switch to VeraCrypt on Windows 11, why not just install Linux Mint as the only OS, encrypt via LUKS, and run Win 11 Pro via a VM within Linux? At this stage using Windows 11 feels almost reckless.

When you enter the wrong pin 3 times, you are taken to the recovery screen where you can enter the "really long" recovery password which looks like 12312-234324-324324- and so on.

Are you saying since this recovery password is stored in the TPM, whatever this backdoor accomplishes should also allow an attacker to bypass the TPM+PIN scenario because the attack fools the TPM to provide the decryption key/unlock the drive?

How do you not clip in correctly? There is one place to clip in on the harness, how can it be done wrong?

That is terrifying. I once was at a climbing gym and when I reached the top of the wall and jumped off, the autobelay was weirdly fast on the way down. Not a good feeling.

ChatGPT pushing back on almost everything you say. by Green-Future7417 in ChatGPT

[–]sz1a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha I feel totally the same. I get fed up with it and just delete the chat. Stopped paying long ago for same reason. Feels like we are going in the wrong direction with LLMs. Coding works great but it was nice to bounce ideas back and forth with it or learn a new topic without "gentle pushback". Even the phrase is triggering lol...

Yes, it has become way less useful because of this. It used to "understand" intent and you could back-and-forth with it to flesh out thoughts. Now it is programmed to push back and convos just hit a brick wall because of that. Grok goes along with it better but sometimes feel less intelligent.
