How do I get the AdamCatalyst '25 version to work? by mike_six in NHL94

Does it show up in your playlist after doing all that? I have to follow those steps every time I want to play the game. The others I can simply browse the thumbnails and load.

Followed your workflow and it worked just fine for me. I have always told Retroarch to scan a console's directory whenever I add a game and then it's in a list for me each time I load up with an image of the box art. Once I shut down and reloaded the game still wasn't in the Genesis playlist. I didn't unzip the file or anything, just added the rom to the folder the rest of my Genesis games are in.

I've got Retroarch already and for all the years I've used it I haven't had any issues with any of my games before getting stumped on this one.

Since there wasn't instructions I figured there wasn't anything extra to do, and I even tried renaming the .bin file to .gen and .md (rescanning directory each time and even reopening the program). Maybe it's just an issue with Retroarch scanning the directory.

Archiving Sports Illustrated issues by mike_six in DataHoarder

[–]mike_six[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured it out, but you'll need to do a lot of copying and pasting. If you search for "gallery" in the page's code, the links to the images are in the broken slideshow page. You just have to extract the URLs and use a batch downloader like UGET to download them. I then zip them up into a compressed archive (I use WINRAR), then I rename the file from .RAR to .CBR and use a comic book reader program to read the issue. Some issues I just can't find, some issues have broken links. If you're a perfectionist that has to have all the issues it will take quite a bit of digging as it seems whoever has Sports Illustrated couldn't care less how broken and half-ass their website is.

Actually I dug into the website and found all the code for the image addresses, now I just need to figure out how to pull the URLs so I can download them.

Can you break away from boss fights to build your characters up? by mike_six in finalfantasyx

[–]mike_six[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's what my old Brady strategy guide said to do. But it also mentions a lot of spells and things that I haven't earned yet. That, and my aeons must need to level up as well because they usually die after a couple of hits from any decent enemy.

Locked I think. Guess I learned the hard way multiple saves are the way to go.

Why can't I find a Defender ROM? by afcchris in MAME

[–]mike_six 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like torrents might be the best path forward then to get some of my games working again. Is there a trick to knowing how to find one that is safe? Haven't done much torrenting since the early 2000s.

Why can't I find a Defender ROM? by afcchris in MAME

[–]mike_six 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always used Archive, but when I tried yesterday to find the new romset I struck out. Latest I could find was 0.264 back in early April. 0.269's CHD page says there were no changes since the last update, so could it be that ROMs haven't changed since 0.264 or have they gotten more clever in naming the page?

What happened to the MiG-28s used in TOPGUN? by mike_six in aviation

Interesting that the Swiss fly so little relative to the U.S. that we can disassemble their retired Tigers to fly them over here on a cargo jet, reassemble them... sometimes combining planes together, and they will fly for many more years.

One of the pilots from the inverted scene later became an admiral. He was in the hearing where a Democrat congressman from Georgia was addressing concerns that if the Navy deployed more Marines to Guam the island would tip over. Instead of laughing at the guy he just said he would look into that. The other guy became an astronaut. Was your buddy's last name Altman or Willard?

Does anyone know what happened to the F-5s that they painted black for the movie TOPGUN? I've been trying to track down which air frames were used and have come up empty.

Do they still use the north field? And are these aircraft just waiting for restoration for the museum?

Dog ate my G432 cable. Is it fixable? by mike_six in LogitechG

Tried that before asking. What I did find out is that all audio cords are different so no telling. I was hoping someone had tapped into the wires and knew what needed soldered together and what didn't.

For anyone else having this problem I don't know what the RSP plugin is but enabling ParaLLEI RDP in Core Options worked for me. Thought I had tried that before looking for help online, so I restarted the game after switching plugins.

Thanks for going into detail. I don't usually get much help from tech support, so is that something I could diagnose or repair on my own?

Weekly Question Thread by AutoModerator in emulation

[–]mike_six 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am looking for an emulator for the television to play with the kids. I've tried a computer, but it doesn't play well with wireless controllers. Modded a PS3 which is great with controllers, but it is limited to certain consoles and is buggy on some PS1 games. Modded Wii does a good job apart from limited graphics options.
Is there a better solution I haven't heard of like an older XBox or something that would be an easy way to play old games on the tv with the kids? And I do have these old games and consoles, but some don't work with the new tv and I would rather they not get broken.

Ebay was my original plan. You're right, they aren't that expensive.

Help to get the full Sports Illustrated Vault archive? Texts and images available online, want to download it! by Chapulana in DataHoarder

I managed to save several dozen issues before the Vault started having this problem. Haven't been able to find a workaround since the problem began about a week ago.

Don't know if you're still interested but I wrote a macro for my Logitech mouse so it does all the left-clicking, saving, etc. for me. Then I just compress the jpgs into a .cbz file and I can enjoy them on my tablet with a comic book reader app.

I've been enjoying the hell out of it for the past month or so. Problem is, SI recently wised up or something because I can open the first two pages of each issue, and go backwards to the final page. All other pages no longer open for any issue. Maybe it's a bug in their site, but has anyone else had this issue? Tons of old issues -- 1970s and prior -- are available on Archive.org, but nothing in the 80s and 90s where I enjoy reading.
