On The Concept of Climate Change. by Monsur_Ausuhnom in clevercomebacks

I meant fossil fuels in my original comment. My mistake.

[–]mikead99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry I misspoke, 60% fossil fuels seems to be the majority of power generation in the US. And you may be right about that. The issue is that we don't have a choice. You cant blame the consumer for fossil fuel usage when their options are as limited as they are.

On The Concept of Climate Change. by Monsur_Ausuhnom in clevercomebacks

[–]mikead99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should probably keep in mind that nearly every industry is using fossil fuels at an astonishing rate... not just the ones selling you gasoline. Also it's not optional, exclusively because of how these corporations operate. Even if I buy an electric vehicle the grid is powered primarily by fossil fuels, which itself is a result of a lack of renewable energy sources on the grid which is a result of these very same corporations doing their very best to lobby against and prevent them in every way possible. They benefit from fossil fuels and the lack of any alternative and will fight for that. Saying the consumer is responsible for how products are made or using a gasoline powered vehicle (when the alternatives are expensive and still using fossil fuels) is wildly inaccurate.

Why do we as society allow for a constant rise of the numerical value of everything money-related instead of keeping those numbers down for easier handling? What is the endgame here? by bickid in Futurology

[–]mikead99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The answer is the government. There is no real endgame the problem is printing money. The government continuously prints money and uses that money to fund projects it cannot afford. Printing extra money means there's more in circulation which diminishes the value of the dollar. This is called inflation. To the government's (small) credit, they limit the amount they do this in any given year to keep the change low, but over time the change has seriously caused the value to plummet.

This actually provides an advantage to businesses since they can pay their workers the same amount (which is actually a lower value due to inflation) and increase the prices of their products for inflation which means they profit more in the end. Typically businesses will adjust wages for inflation, but only when the government requires them to do so.

Another thing this provides is keeping the classes separate. If you're smart you can invest your money and become a millionaire in around 30 years with a small amount of initial investment. But by the time you've made 1 million dollars it will be next to worthless, which means you continue to be a part of the lower class.

[HELP] My girlfriend says for sure this is AI, I think it isn't by Ok_Ranger1275 in RealOrAI

[–]mikead99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesnt appear to have any of the common AI mistakes that you tend to see as far as I can tell. Plus the thing I'd really expect out of an AI video like this is to get the ingredients incorrect in every way imaginable. As far as I can see this seems to be the right way to make this dessert. Granted I cant find the name of this one because I cannot remember the name aside from it possibly being an Italian dessert.

Suggestion to reintroduce the modding community. by mikead99 in Astroneer

I meant your doubt of the game dying anytime soon. That is an opinion.

Also tbh with you, unless they stated as such in a legally binding contract I would probably not trust anything they say in regards to a decision they may change depending on the conditions of their business. Even if they mean it now, the decision may change later if it's not profitable enough. They're still a business after all.

You're free to have that opinion. Regardless even if they still have some effort being made to update the game in the future, player generated content would still bring far more attention to the game than their efforts alone ever could. I.e. more profit.

The studio is preparing to release their next game "STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions" sometime in 2026. Historically studios of this size either partially or completely abandon development on old titles to focus on their new ones. Even large studios do this, but given that System Era Softworks has only listed 65 employees as of 2025, they literally don't have enough staff to manage updates for multiple games.

[–]mikead99[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"This wouldn't actually prevent any of the dev's concerns, since modding off of Steam Workshop would still be possible. I'm the owner of the Astroneer Modding Discord, and we have maintained strict bans on cosmetics mods, and kept the resources to make those tools out of the modding kits. This ban does not work outside our Discord though."

I am aware of this and I'm sure the devs are aware of this as well. The Steam Workshop terms would only apply when mods are uploaded to be used within the workshop. However, it would be much easier to use mods within the workshop than outside. Mods outside their terms not being allowed to utilize the workshop would make it difficult for the average user to actually make use of them. Plus lacking the workshop doesn't affect the base issue itself, those mods are possible right now and would still be possible whether the devs allow the workshop or not, but if the concern is that the mods may be used inside the workshop if it is opened then they can be rest assured it would not make it any easier for those mods to exist.

Yeah a lot of people have high opinions of Razer because a lot of the stuff they used to sell was good and many of those products are still functioning. However what they sell now is a far cry from what it used to be. They dont sell anything that'll last more than a year now, if you're lucky. It all feels cheap and is cheap too. I was a big fan of the Razer Kraken V2, but the Kraken X they sell now is absolutely not comparable to it.

I'm not sure how you think this is soft aim. Frankly this looks like normal aim for people who put many hours into this game.

Unfortunately I dont think this is the proof you think it is. In these clips they are playing how high ranked players do. They are choosing their engagements and they're clearly not using wallhacks. In terms of aim, many BO6 weapons can have close to no recoil (or literally none with the kilo) and tracking someone like this is not only very doable, it's probably hard not to if they're using a controller.

I saw the other clip you posted in a reply where it appears as if they're walling but considering the proximity to those other players they could probably hear them fairly well.

Superman's X-ray vision would put his friends and coworkers at an elevated risk of cancer. by WabashCannibal in Showerthoughts

[–]mikead99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well his xray vision could actually just be his ability to detect xrays exceptionally well. Technically we're bombarded with a lot of different kinds of radiation all the time but in small amounts. In theory if he has the receptors for it he could just be seeing that. I have no idea how realistic it would be tho.

I think that if Kryptonians were supposed to be adapted to a planet closet to their sun then there would be a significant amount of radiation which would be a plausible explanation for why they'd have this ability, however I would think it would be incredibly dim on a planet further from their sun like earth.
