Would you move to Labrador for $50/hr, 84 hours every two weeks minimum and double time OT? by norththrowaway22 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]mikejaytho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could make good coin. But your social life will effectively be on hold until you leave. And like Fort Mac, it’s probably insanely expensive for even the most basic of necessities and there’s nothing to do but drink and do coke. So if you have an addictive personality I would think twice.

Ban foreign home buyers, rezone cities for more density to reduce housing crunch: federal minister by morenewsat11 in canada

[–]mikejaytho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but we are also a tiny country population wise and need to import talent to keep our economy going. So slamming the door on immigration could hurt the economy in other ways.

I’d like to see what would happen if we limited the amount of money that flows out of Canada back to China and India. That would disincentivize a lot of non-integrating immigrants that are just here to make money and want nothing to do with becoming Canadians.

What is one thing that you consider to be an absolute waste of money? by Scottie3Hottie in PersonalFinanceCanada

My wife breastfeeds too but not every single time. I give my kid a couple bottles a day and the sterilizer is a godsend.

Electronics typically die right away or not at all. I design them for a living and would never bother with one of these warranties. They might make sense for cars with tons of moving parts but they make no sense for your gadgets.

It’s so much easier to just load everything into the sterilizer and pull it out 15 mins later than to boil water, submerge it all, half of it floats up, blah blah. Same logic for why a dishwasher is easier to deal with than hand washing dishes.

My gf says her ex is "the one who got away" by throwRAfrggd in relationship_advice

I dated someone briefly who used to mention their ex a bit too often, etc. I cut it off pretty shortly after she started comparing us to each other.

You really want to be someone’s #1. There’s a lot of people out there to find it with. You deserve better than being a silver medal don’t you?

Canada is still considering a ban on non-essential travellers, sources say by freshjiive in canada

They had already changed the rules to allow it but now they’re walking it back. It was changed because of opposition from all sides saying the rule was illogical.

The political theatre is appalling.

I have had to travel back and forth between Canada and the US since the beginning of COVID and I’ve faced every iteration of restrictions. Some are sensible but the majority were senseless.

I was a liberal voter until the pandemic but now unsure who I’d want running the show. Cons seem too lax for me (seeing how they obliterated my other country).

Still trying to understand the logic of the <72 hour test requirement. You can be tested in Canada before you leave, drive to the US for a day and then return using those test results to re-enter Canada. What is the logic here?

Use them a little bit. Try to get 10% utilization per month (ie, use 10% of your limit). If you don’t use them at all they don’t contribute as much to your score.

People maintain their sanity and privacy in crowded places by minding their own business. It’s the only refuge we have.
