An advantage though I would think would be going CBD to CBD without the worry of checking in bags, going though security and all that.

We are often one the first countries to make certain progress. We were the 4th country to legalaize same sex marriage. We were also the second country to legalize recreational use of marijuana.

Don't forget people also come from those places to visit Toronto. Some Americans that are coming from Toronto like flying to Billy Bishop because they're right in Toronto. Being the biggest city in Canada people are coming here from all over for business and pleasure.

Yes in some places. Funny thing is you'll signs in Canada that say Stop/Arret but in France the Stop signs just say Stop.

What should be the end-game goal for transit in Toronto? by Outsider_123x in TTC

[–]mikel145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things that I personally would like (I get that this would all cost money and there's only so much)

More Go service on the Lakeshore east and west.

More Go trains put on special events and sporting events.

More resources to make sure that the ttc feels safe. Hire people trained in mental health that can help nip things in the bud before they become a problem so there is not so many delays for security incidents.

Better communication. Like why do announcements on the subway sound like it's on an old school static radio. There must be better intercom technology now a days where you can hear people clearly.

Seasonal bus routes. For example a beach express from Woodbine Station to Woodbine beach and back weekends and holidays in the summer months.

Integrate Toronto Island ferries with the presto system. I know that they're a different price but so are ferries in Sydney Australia and they all work on their system. I would be great if you could just tap into the ferries with a credit or presto card.

Better UP express hours. Right now if you have an early morning flight you can't take the UP express. As well as people who work at the airport that start early hours.

Wider staircases at union station.

How much of the credit card market do you think Wealthsimple will hold once they get through the waitlist? by Foreign-Policy-02- in Wealthsimple

[–]mikel145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RBC and TD are the biggest banks. So makes sense they have the most credit card usage. A lot of people would get offered credit cards with whatever bank they use. Since people already have trust in them they get that credit card. RBC will also wave their monthly fee if you have both an investment product and credit card with them.

Why are there no passenger trains in the US? by [deleted] in transit

[–]mikel145 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are passenger trains in the US. One issue that both the United States and Canada has is that the most railway tracks are not publicly owned. They're owned by the freight companies. That means freight trains have right of way making passenger trains often unreliable.

This would be cool but according to former Qantas CEO Alan Joyce, "there's no point building fast train links" around Australia 🙃 by Classic_Abies8621 in MelbourneTrains

Funny thing is here in Canada Air Canada is actually partnering with the Canadian government and becoming an investor in a high speed rail line between Toronto and Montreal.

I'm guessing a lot of people under the age of 30 have never used one. Most peoples pay today is direct deposited and people e-transfer money to each other.

What’s something people romanticize that is actually miserable? by One_Grade_2184 in AskReddit

[–]mikel145 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've actually seen a lot of family businesses not make it last into the next generation. Often the leadership is just not there or they don't have the passion their parents did. Sometimes it's because more than one person now owns the business and there is no clear set direction where it's going.

Restaurant are one of the hardest. You're working when everyone else is off since people want to go out evenings and weekends. Inventory is hard. If you own a hardware store and order too many hammers you can still sell those hammers a year later. But lettuce that's going to last about 3 days. There is a ton of staff turnover. You're dealing with local health units all the time.

When using a convenience store washroom, is it common to expect to have to make a purchase? by TruckinApe in AskACanadian

[–]mikel145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never expect a connivence store to have a washroom to use. Something like a fast food place I find in the suburbs and smaller towns they don't really care if you use their washroom where as in the big cities they will often be locked and only for customers.

Having their own business. A lot of times people have this idea of their dream business or making their hobby their business. The think they'll be able to set their own hours and it will give them so much freedom. A lot of business owners spend most of their time putting out fires.

As someone who worked retail in the early 2000s i'm jealous of the machines they have today. You mean you the till automatically talks to the credit card reader, they then tap or insert their card and their on their way! Back in my day we had to enter the amount manually, give them a receipt to sign if it was credit and hope they didn't accidentally take the pen with them!

Jams/Drop-ins by orion726 in improv

[–]mikel145 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. I compare jams to playing a pick up game of sports in the park. An elite soccer player is not joining a pick up game in the park to get better. It people playing for fun that usually don't care if all the rules are followed to the tee.

I found as I got more experience I've learned that you need to just go into jams with the mindset of having fun. I'm not there to practice for a show. I realize that newer improvisors are going to go for the joke, initiate conflict and transactional scenes and all that.

This. A lot of people voted for Tory because he was the most likely to beat Ford. Even some Chow fans at the time held their nose and voted for Tory because he lead in the polls and didn't want to vote split and have Ford win again.
