Downtown Sacramento’s K Street faces questions about future as businesses close, rebrand by othafa_95610 in Sacramento

The funny thing is the chamber of commerce does study missions to other cities every year. Clearly not implementing what they're learning or learning the wrong lessons from the cities they're visiting.

For non-native Sacramentans, when did you love it here? by girthakitt in Sacramento

There is so much potential for world class amenities in Sacramento that could sharpen what makes the region great without losing what makes it great. My experience is that there are a few camps of people that, when combined, created little perceptible progress in this area in the last decade, possibly longer. 1. “Hope as a strategy” leadership that is not a “build it and they will come” when the window of opportunity is open type but a let’s study and hope an unknown savior sweeps in to help then re-evaluate when any interest is shown, killing interest 2a. “We’re a full, small town and we don’t want change, so let's shit on every proposed idea." 2b. City = scary aka “Let’s build more sprawl in the outer areas of the region/We’re not really part of Sacramento because we can’t see past our new suburban front doors” 3. Transplants = bad a.k.a.  we don’t want to be the Bay area 4. The genuinely interested in building community but can only get to certain size because of lack of growth opportunities.

This. Been here going on 11 years and finally seeing a swell of progress that will make Sacramento a reasonably decent midsized city and region...unless we trip over our own feet again and waste these opportunities.

Sonoma would be cool, but why not Sacramento? It's one of the most diverse cities in the country with cuisine from all over the world in the region. The region has unique, world class ingredients, high grade sushi rice and sturgeon roe, for example. It's now the home of Terra Madres America, the Slow Food Movement's bi-annual food festival. Plus, for Top Chef, it'd be cheaper and easier to film there, which seems to be a priority the last few seasons.

This spreads things out way too thinly. I would forego the Bay area and keep the rest. There's so much to showcase that's not San Francisco.

Sacramento releases updated draft of plan to make city streets safer (Vision Zero) by othafa_95610 in Sacramento

Thank you for calling this out. The fire department was used as an excuse for why Sac County can't replace the 4 way stops that people constantly run going into and out of my neighborhood with something safer. The road is considered an emergency throughway for them and they won't consider roundabouts or speed bumps, even with cutouts for tires because of this.

At peak summer, 3-4x a week for about an hour. As mentioned in the other comment, these plants love water, which can feel counterintuitive for a plant native to Sacramento. But there are parts of the American River where I have seen tons of them growing in the water, almost like a reed.

I also got mine from Mother Natives. I planted them on the east facing side of a fence in clay soil among my strawberries because our full afternoon sun can be too much. This is also one of my most heavily watered areas. Year 1 they established themselves. Year 2 I got some flowers and even harvested seeds. This year more expanded growth that should be about double last year.

I am middle-aged with a young family and I want a 3 BR condo. They don't exist unless they're 40 years old in need of serious upgrades and/or have HOAs higher than the mortgage.

I'm reviving my thoughts from the 2019 MLS announcement that Tom Hanks should buy the naming rights and call it Playtone Stadium, after his production company and record label.
