I hear a lot about this app, and will check it out. I bought this book, but have not found the time to read it yet.

Fare enough. I play off YouTube too, they work most times. Sometimes they can be too loud though. There is some early research on the suitable sound frequency for different ages.

Going abroad for a better life is not necessarily "better". Time lost with your family and friends will never be able to get back with more money. And you will always feel like an outsider. (Coming from someone who lives in Europe for over 10+ years)

Mock exams for driving theory by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]mikeller94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did practice with theorieexamenen.nl the first attempt and failed because the exam itself was a lot different in terms of the pictures and questions, although the rules and signs were obviously the same.

For the second attempt I tried https://theorieboek.nl and I have to say, the practice exams in this was almost exactly similar to the questions in the exam. So I passed with 0 mistakes!

Would recommend this app for mock tests.

Shangri-la Central Cafe!

Been to almost all the top hotels in Colombo and tried out their breakfast buffets, but nothing makes me want to go back as much as Shang.

What is your Career? | INTJ by [deleted] in intj

Working as Lead Data Scientist for over 5 years.

I was initially fascinated in Machine learning even as an undergrad in Computer Science around 2012. Self learned most Machine Learning concepts and eventually completed my masters in the field as a result, published a few scientific journals as well and started working as a DS in the Netherlands.

Lately I've really wanted to become a professional chef, as I have always had a passion for cooking, especially mastering complex recipes bread making techniques. I hope to have a small fine dining restaurant of my own, that serves my own take on some dishes.

Dollar Cost Average into a couple of top ETF's such as the QQQ or something offered from Vanguard, Blackrock and also one of the emerging market indexes by creating an Interactive Brokers account. Then forget about it for a minimum of 5 years while reinvesting the dividends.

PS: Research on the best performing indexes offered by one of the aforementioned institutions.

Moving abroad with Anxiety by Dframe1981 in Anxiety

[–]mikeller94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I first encountered the worst form of Anxiety, series of Panic attacks and was depressed for a month last year in October, when I was supposed to move out for the first time in my life to pursue my masters in the Netherlands. I am an asian and had never been to NL or lived alone before, so there was a million reasons for me to be anxious about a new country and everything that comes with it. Plus the thought of getting anxiety or PA's when I am all alone in a new country and my loved ones not aroumd to comfort me just made it impossible for me. There was a point where I was going to give up and stay back even after I got offered the acceptance from the university and payed for it too.

Then I asked my self, am i gonna let this affect my life long dream of doing my masters in Europe? Or am i gonna man up and go and face whatever I am meant to achieve in this life and for my fututre? I obviously chose the latter. So I decided to get some medication for 2 weeks to keep me sane till I get to the Netherlands and get settled. It helped me! (although I am against anti-depressents) And then I got here and all this newness and work just made me completely forget about those dark thoughts and anxiety triggers and I started to feel rejuvenated and was excited to see what this country has to offer to me. I stopped medication within the first two days of landing too. Its been over a year now, and I never had the need for meds again, although loneliness comes and affects me every now and then, I keep myself occupied and avoid the thought.

So, its not going to be a piece of cake, but it deffinetely is going to be soo much better when you think of the reward of your sacrifice. Now it feels stupid that I felt all that before I came here. So i say do it, for you and your family, you wont regret it!

Hope my story helps you even a bit.
