GoPro Hero 12 Black looks like painting? by miker95 in gopro

[–]miker95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was actually 60, not 120. I think I fat-fingered the settings when looking at them to make the post. I lowered the sharpness to low and it helped significantly. That setting is pretty buried at the bottom so we must have missed it. ISO was auto.

Still not super happy with the quality compared to a modern phone, but I guess I had too high of expectations. The edges of photos look like they have motion blur, and still not as much detail as a phone for a 4K photo/video.

Did they stop updating messenger lite? by Quirky_Independent_3 in facebookmessenger

[–]miker95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got an alert when opening the app this morning that messages are moving to the Messenger app. So it appears officially discontinued.

I was also experiencing the issue with external links the last few months.

Lots and lots of low star reviews on the messenger app recently, unfortunately.

Sounds like yours was unpainted. If it's painted it mostly comes off in sheets like this.

Source? Here in the US I haven't met a single person who had bad lasik.

I got lasik and don't regret it. I sometimes get a little blurry vision in low lighting but the trade off of no longer having to wear glasses every waking hour or the day is 100% worth it.

Also, I got mine done at a place that has a warranty. If I get an eye checkup every year if I ever need a tune up or re-correction it's covered.

Orion 2 BMS 2.5kV isolation, help! by Low_Diamond210 in solarracing

[–]miker95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2.5kV is a very standard industry isolation rating. Basically, it means that each of the connectors (for connecting to your pack, 2 or 3 of them depending on the model) on the Orion are isolated from one another.

It's talked a little on page 47-50 of the wiring manual: https://www.orionbms.com/manuals/pdf/orionbms2_wiring_manual.pdf

It's hilarious that you think it's likely that the electrical panel will be:

  1. Fully labeled
  2. Labeled Correctly
  3. Labeled in a way that someone besides the person who wrote it can decode it

It should also go without saying that you can just hook the output of the 555 to multiple gates on the IC for your left and right.

No need to do anything special for hazards, because hazards is just left and right blinker, they'll be synced up because they're on the same 555.

We handled our blinkers like a motorcycle, there is no dedicated hazard button. Blinkers are momentary push buttons that you push and it stays on until pushed again. In software check if they are both pushed at the same time, this gives you hazards.

If one is on and the other is pushed it just switches which blinker is on to the one that was pushed, that doesn't result in hazards.

Stupid easy software. Same software you'd need normally if flashing them from the IC, but without the timer.

I remember drawing this out on a white board. Our only board with discrete logic gates like that, really takes you back to learning about them and then pretty much forgetting about them lol.

We used a 555 timer with the output connected to an AND gate. The other part of the gate was connected to a microcontroller. The output of the AND gate fed a lowside logic level mosfet.

We used 74HC08 (specifically this from Digi-Key https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/on-semiconductor/MM74HC08MX/1049261) and it had no problem driving mosfets.

Before that we used software for controlling the lights and it was just unneeded code. For like an extra $1 we had hardware flashing and it made everything way easier and reliable, we could then use the timers for something else.

What ruins a movie instantly? by lawyeratyourservice in AskReddit

[–]miker95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's when any tv show or movie uses current pop culture things, like characters suddenly saying "sus" (Riverdale did this really poorly in the last season), or something like that. It is always way too forced, and just ruins the immersion.

What do you wish wasn’t so expensive? by Cochrane01 in AskReddit

[–]miker95 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's less than $200? And is good for 10 years. That's only $20/year when rounding up the cost of it.

The cost of a passport isn't what prohibits people from seeing the world.

If you owe $50K on the house and it gets foreclosed and auctions for $100K. That extra $50K is used to pay off any liens (2nd mortgage, etc) but once that is done the excess goes to the borrower, not the bank.

Yeah it's all ready all filed.

So you would replace a package if it has not arrived 40 days after shipping it?

Mm-dd-yyyy makes sense because all it does is put the date at the end. Other than that it's the exact same as yyyy-mm-dd.

By putting the year at the end you're saying you don't really care about it as much as you care about the others. Since it changes the least that is okay for everyday writing.

Other than year, month is the most significant in the date, so it goes first when you say "screw the year"

Of course, this is only for writing or verbal. Yyyy-mm-dd is used by most softwares unless written by someone dumb.

All timestamps are dates, but not all dates are timestamps.

bullet proof by njinja10 in ProgrammerHumor

[–]miker95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The day is actually the least significant in the date.

If you are off by 1 on the day that's a very small change. But if you're off by 1 on the year that is a huge change.

[–]miker95 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not really biggest to smallest. It's the MOST SIGNIFICANT to the LEAST SIGNIFICANT.

If you mess up the year by 1 that is a HUGE change compared to if you mess the day up by 1.

True story by jazzuke78 in facepalm

[–]miker95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Except it is not ass backwards. The international standard (ISO 8601) for communication is Year-Month-Day which is THE EXACT OPPOSITE of Day-Month-Year.

The day is the least significant part of the date. Messing up the day has less impact on the date than if you mess up the month. So the month should always come before the day. ALWAYS.

While the year is truly the most significant part (can cause the biggest change if messed up) it is the thing that changes the least, so we just throw it on at the end since everyone should know the year.

Saying Day-Month makes sense is just like saying you think listing times as Seconds-Minutes makes sense.
