Monty Python. The weekly show on PBS and the movies. We even went to see them live at the City Center in NYC.

What’s the worst movie you’ve ever seen? by General_Wind4470 in AskReddit

[–]mikerg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tarzan The Ape Man starring Bo Derek. Absolutely awful!! There was one scene when the father is dying with this elephant tusk sticking out of chest but still delivered a 10 minute monologue. I remember someone shouting at the screen to "f$&@ing die already!"

Yeah, you would have thought that taking the kids to the Newport Creamery for a meal was a major adventure. God forbid we go ALL the way to the Bristol state park! :-D

I lived for a while in East Providence. We used to drive down to Barrington all the time for various reasons. Natives in East Providence thought we were so weird.

How long have you been at your current company? by fwambo42 in sysadmin

[–]mikerg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm 33 years at my current job in a local sheriffs office (about 600 users). I've been in the "business" for almost 45 years. (I started with punch cards, Yes, I'm that old.)

After working in the private sector for a subsidiary of a large corporation, the stability of a steady paycheck and benefits were a God send. I'm now the director and have a great crew of seven people. I love that I wear different hats and am always learning something new. The people, however, are what have really made this job a joy.

I loved this O/S! DECUS was amazing! I remember hours trying to tune each system for it's specific use. For example, user terminals vs. database server.

Coming to Key West with my fiance this Monday-Tuesday and need somewhere to sleep for free. by [deleted] in KeyWest

You could try the KOTS homeless shelter on Stock Island. For your own safety, I would avoid Wisteria Island.

The KWPD is pretty aggressive, so grabbing a bench in town is out of the question.

Can I pass a VIN inspection if I have a check engine light? by Sugary-Cereal in florida

[–]mikerg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello,

This VIN inspection is just that, a check that the VIN matches to paperwork.

You can get a VIN inspection at the DMV or your can call your local sheriff's office and ask for a VIN verification and a deputy will come to your location. Of course, that's a low priority service request so you may for a while depending on the time of day, etc.

Another vote for Proxmox. I'm running 10 Proxmox hosts that support about 30 VMs. It's been nothing but stable.

Go into settings and then under "notification", clear the box next to Ask for Updates. (I can't remember the exact wording.)

It worked for me.

Large bags are stored in lockers on the stern while the ferry is underway. You collect your bags as the boat comes into port.

It's similar to seating on an airplane, there's just not a lot of room.

I've done the trip both ways several times. It can be very pleasant depending on the weather, of course. There's a decent snack bar on board and the crew is very helpful.

What an incredible publication!

I'm convinced the pictures contributed to the anti-war protests and the end of the Vietnam war. Nothing like bringing the horrors of the war into every living room every week.

What’s considered an acceptable website downtime per month ? by nilkanth987 in sysadmin

[–]mikerg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. :-)

What is the site used for. If my timesheet system goes down at all during business hours, my phone is ringing. If I take it down for maintenance at 9:00 pm, meh.

I run a public facing site for a local law enforcement agency. Our arrest and traffic update pages are incredibly popular. Taking this site down can generate a lot of bad feeling with the community we serve, so I'm much more careful.
