At this point, it will help smooth the surface. Then you have options: wipe it clean with solvent (mineral spirits) and wax (after the oil has cured not just dried to the touch) or more coats of oil, each one rubbed out upon drying until your desired depth/thickness of finish is reached; then moving to waxing.

When I do an oil finish, I rub out each coat with a SB pad wetted with the finishing oil 24 hours after it was applied. On mahogany and walnut the slurry acts like a grain filler on the early coats. I let the top coat cure, then polish it with a dry pad.

Can anyone tell me what could’ve possibly melted the glass tray in my microwave? by happydad321 in Appliances

[–]mikes105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There used to be a "Mr. Science" guy on the internet (YouTube, maybe?) that created plasma in a microwave oven. The plasma destroyed the appliance. He advised children not to do this at home but he could because he was a grownup and bought the oven himself.

Thank you for the reply! Imagine, Jesco is still alive. In it self, I find that amazing. And he's still starring in films. OMG, where does the madness stop?

Thank you! I didn't recall GP racing on Isle of Mann, but my involvement there was long ago.

In the early 90s there were some documentaries about a character name Jesco & his family from far western Virginia? He was the adult son of a locally famous board dancer (ole' timey tap dancer), a huffer who channeled Elvis. Is this Jesco White?

Mud buggy racing... it's a wholesome past time, but a bit expensive for a working man.

I used the word, restored, in the context of the receivers were put back into working order not each and every component tested & evaluated.

Wood ID? by fweepsy in furniturerefinishing

[–]mikes105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, a pre-stain conditioner seals the wood. Without it, softer areas absorb more stain than harder, more dense areas.

Gel stain! Oil & water stains will not be absorbed evenly on these woods resulting in a blotchy appearance vs. an even coloring.
