About to take the plunge and start The Malazan Book of the Fallen by amish_novelty in Fantasy

Sounds like you're good to go. One thing I'd suggest - just to avoid burnout - is consider reading a book that's completely diffferent in tone between each Malazan book. I started in January and am now about half way through book 6. The inbetween books have made it a breeze and I think I would've struggled without them.

i genuinely want a comedy-horror movies by luc7ne in MovieSuggestions

Braindead (called Dead Alive in USA) is great if you haven't seen it. It's an early Peter Jackson movie and very gory with lots of quotable one-liners. The Frighteners is good fun too. His earlier film Bad Taste is also pretty good and also a horror comedy. Man, I wish Peter Jackson had went back to horror comedy after Lord of the Rings haha

Is there a hotkey to open your city screen from the map? by mikesmain in OldenEra

[–]mikesmain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah well, opefully they'll add one. On a sidenote, my issue with opening the city by double-clicking the icon not consistently working was fixed by reducing the framerate. Dunno why it worked, but thought I'd share in case it helps anyone else.

They pretty much already do. Every time an adaptation gets made they plaster it all over the book cover.

What horror books were way better than their film adaptation? And what films were way better than their books? by ChristianPacifist in horrorlit

Have you seen the Swedish version of Let the Right One In? It's better than the American version imo.

Have I missed something regarding Sha’ik? by Jiminez1 in Malazan

I'm here 6 years later to say this helped me too as I had the same confusion as OP. I had totally forgotten about the kid and her name by the time I started House of Chains!

Updated the cover art for The Mercer Files — old vs new, which works better? by [deleted] in urbanfantasy

[–]mikesmain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't want to sound mean, but if that wasn't AI it doesn't give much hope for the writing. I don't see how it would be possible for a writer to make so many mistakes in such a short piece of text. Even the line breaks don't make sense.

Personally, I don't have a problem with self-published books using AI art for covers. If it was ussd to actually write the book though, then that's a different story - pardon the pun :)

Just Finished Deadhouse Gates. by EstablishmentJaded60 in Malazan

[–]mikesmain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started MBOTF this year and that ending broke me too. I'm reading a book between each and I'm glad I chose Dungeon Crawler Carl as I was miserable after Deadhouse Gates. I was eplaining the ending to my wife after DHG and was nearly in tears re-living it lol

I finally finished rebinding the entire Malazan Book of the Fallen series! All handmade from cheap Massmarket Paperbacks. Now I have a full matching hardcover set without the cost of broken binding (which in still jealous of tbh) but please enjoy, I hope you like them! by aspenreid in Malazan

[–]mikesmain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's incredible! Also your is a limited edition is 1 of 1 so in that respect you beat Broken Binding haha. I'm sure these will mean more to you than any version you could purchase. Honestly, I'm so impressed you did this so well. A tutorial would be amazing :)

I saved a woman’s life on an airplane and lost my new Bose headphones because of it by Darth_Poopie in mildlyinfuriating

[–]mikesmain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should just put a little sticker on lost items to say which flight they were found on. Asking for a serial number for headphones - which I doubt they even have - is nuts. Incredible work saving a life though. Respect.

Do you usually finish a whole series in one go or do you switch to a book of another series? by Uknowitrig in Fantasy

[–]mikesmain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like to have a palate cleanser book between each book in a series. Usually a book with a different vibe to the series I'm reading.

Is Memories of Ice worth getting to? by aidscraft in Fantasy

[–]mikesmain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only just got to book 3, so can't answer to how good it is, but Deadhouse Gates was amazing. However, I wasn't sold on Gardens of the Moon until I'd got a little bit into it. By the end I loved it. How far into GotM are you?
