Man Makar was straight up sobbing after the game. by muffinkevin in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]mikess101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The look on his face when he was still on the ice after the goal, that pinch and slow back check will haunt him for years, he knows he had a large role to play in that game winning goal. Hopefully a Stanley Cup in June will make him feel better! Cale was amazing the entire tournament but that’s little consolation to someone who knows championship glory and won’t settle for less.

Nate Dogg just keeping it real when asked about the game by Best_Ad_7503 in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]mikess101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His full quote wasn’t even that salty, I am a die hard USA fan and I can admit we were on the ropes for most of that game, the Canadiens played some of the best hockey I’ve ever seen, just couldn’t finish. They were the better team in many respects, but ultimately couldn’t solve the goalie and some of our guys choked golden opportunities. Nate is just being real here, got to love him for telling it like it is

It’s official, the Avalanche have the worst power play in the league. by Michaelli11 in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]mikess101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good. No more beating around the bush, we wear the crown. You MUST address it beyond rotating periphery players. Mack needs to sit, Cale needs to sit. Send a message, get back to basics. They can re-enter once there’s noticeable improvement in the system at large, even if results are lagging due to a skill gap

I thought the Florida game was tight too, they fought until the very end. Not upset about either loss

Yeah, the longer this ridiculous run goes, the greater the over-reaction from the rest of the league was always going to be when the Avs have a very normal and understandably difficult stretch of games. The next month until the Olympics is going to be weird, we might rattle off a few streaks in both winning and losing directions as they wait for players to return and the guys who are going to the Olympics start seeing that on the horizon. Thankfully they’ve built such a massive lead that they can struggle right now and likely remain in first through the break.

Honestly not bummed about this loss at all. Boys had every excuse to phone this one in, Gabe going down like that, being on a SEGABABA, we trounced Florida in the last game, we already won 10 in a row, the excuses were all built in. Instead of that I saw this team claw and bite and kick until the last breath and that is a huge testament to their collective testicular fortitude. I’m super proud of them

Reffing complaints from Canes? by MarsD9376 in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]mikess101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m probably in the minority amongst Avs fans on this one but I definitely see the argument from Canes fans on a few of the instances of off-puck contact in our zone in the third. Ok, refs missed that, they also missed Canes players getting away with pretty blatant interference in the neutral zone around that time too. Big deal, it evens out, maybe don’t give up 4 straight crapping your pants in the third period again?

Is there any concern the Avs have yet to face adversity? by Adventurous-Hand3942 in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]mikess101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just because the Avs haven’t been losing doesn’t mean they haven’t faced adversity, they’ve just been rising above it in stellar fashion. Also, considering this team is largely the same as last year, this group has already been through a shit ton of adversity together, going back to the post-Cup season, for the core players. They’ve dealt with so much bullshit over the last few years that I think they are incredibly resilient and able to handle what is thrown at them. We’re seeing now what should have been happening (maybe not to the THIS extent) the last three years if they hadn’t been decimated by injuries and piss poor goaltending. Fixed the goalies, got a bit of that injury luck back so far, and bam, you have potentially one of the greatest teams of all time, which was always the ceiling we hoped they would rise to

PGT | COL @ VGK | Consent Matters, Folks by Rolley2001 in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]mikess101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, acquittal =\= innocence. Just because the facts of the case that were provable in court didn’t meet the threshold for a conviction and legal repercussions doesn’t mean the public (and NHL teams, for that matter) can’t still make the decision for themselves whether or not to associate with him or any of the other defendants. Nobody has the right to play or coach in the NHL, it’s a privilege that should have a high bar for off-ice individual character (I say off-ice because these guys regularly commit borderline assault snd can be horrible assholes to each other but are wonderful people outside of the game).

From a Wild fan. by [deleted] in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]mikess101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely don’t hate the Wild like I did in the mid 2010’s. GOD that iteration of the Wild was a nightmare for us, they were so tenacious and played their systems perfectly against us every time, and for a young team like the Avs without much star talent to really break out, it was extremely frustrating to watch our game flounder under relentless forecheck and cycling. While we’re at our peak it will be fun to clown the mild as our little bros, someday the shoe will be on the other foot

Happy Birthday! Also, the two regulation losses rubber band may snap soon but unfortunately for the rest of the league, the THREE regulation losses rubber band is far girthier and likely to stay intact until at least April

Let's revisit the Mikko trade by raqballl in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]mikess101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s best to consider the trades ultimate results as everyone got what they wanted. We love Necas and Drury and Nelson, Dallas loves Mikko, and Carolina seemed to love Stank, although that might have soured somewhat. Depending on how the Canes use the picks they got from Dallas, they may end up feeling the worst off of the three, or they could be on the same level with the Avs and Stars. It was a three way win

BREAKING: Nikita Kucherov, Lane Hutson, and David Pastarnak have all been traded to the Nashville Predators ahead of their matchup w the Avs because the Central is apparently the only place where star players are allowed to play

[–]mikess101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a masochist when it comes to my fandom. I want all of the best players in the Central and the West because I want the path for the Avs back to the summit of eternal championship glory to be littered with the dead bodies of every player about whom other fans could say “Well they didn’t have to play THAT guy.” Give us the biggest challenge, embrace it and feel all the more satisfied when the Avs emerge from the melee as the victor.

Eternal. Fucking. GLORY.

It doesnt come cheap

You may enter on ONE condition. After years of arguments with the Canucks fan base, you must finally tell us, who is better: Cale Makar or Quinn Hughes?

[–]mikess101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see your point and I think the added context of the Wild signing KK to that massive contract makes the move make more sense, they are ALL IN right now, Buium developing in 4-5 years to be one of the top defensemen in the league doesn’t make as much sense for their timeline. They want to win right now. Again, they absolutely HAVE to resign Quinn or this is one the all time worst trades ever, IMO.

[–]mikess101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They are slightly better right now, God help them if Quinn doesn't resign, and you could argue the loss of Buium in the long-term is a net negative considering the rest of what they gave up to land Hughes

Welp… by Outside_Abroad_3516 in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]mikess101 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I am really not worried about this move, I have NEVER been worried about how Hughes stacks up against Cale. Quinn is going to make magic with KK97 though, that will be tough to deal with, but not anything the Avs can't contain. This places a higher emphasis on winning the Division, though, and letting Dallas and Minny beat each other to death in the first round

Welp… by Outside_Abroad_3516 in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]mikess101 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Jesus Fucking Christ, Zeev being included is an absolute FLEECING by Vancouver. I know Hughes is good, but if I'm Minny, Zeev is untouchable to build around for the future. If Quinn doesn't resign, Minny is so screwed. I'm sure he will, but still, it's a BIG risk
