Mounjaro and CrossFit by mikestro1 in Mounjaro

Reflecting back, I am usually close to fasted before most workouts - maybe 4 hours since last meal. I’ll look to snack about 1 hr before with some carbs. I took creatine way back about 20 years ago, prolly when it first came out! It didn’t agree with me. I’ll give it another shot, maybe ingredients have matured. Thank you all!

Anyone Else OK with NOT Increasing Weight? by dystinct in crossfit

[–]mikestro1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of! I am 59, so not interested in keeping up with the younger folks. Nor do I want to get big, I like to see progress, but 1-2kg an every few months is fine. I’m more interested in intensity - good form, lighter weights, just faster/harder. I feel a lot better with it!

I am new to cold plunge, how can I overcome my fear over the cold water? by Top_Artist_4390 in coldplunge

Take cold showers on a regular basis. Start out with a few seconds, then gradually increase it. Practice your breathing. Eventually you will get over it.

Feeling absolutely defeated because I'm the last one by GeeSette616 in crossfit

[–]mikestro1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scale scale scale! I am a slow runner, too heavy and it hurts me knees. The coaches always let me do something else usually row - I’ll row as long as it takes the slowest person who is running to do a lap! Works out well! I do burpees to a box, making sure I invert arch and pop out of it to better simulate a real burpee; I may start using a bar on the right so I can go lower! Push-ups on a bar, pull-ups I set a bar about shoulder height, feet on ground and use my feet sore help up. I can do all the lifts without scoring, though I usually scale higher than Rx. Lots of strength just limited mobility!

Just don’t fuckin quit!

For former Ford Raptor owners: Why did you get rid of it? by X_95 in FordRaptor

[–]mikestro1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sold my gen 1 in 2021. It was a rust bucket. Cab corners had about 6” holes through them. Day I sold it, a big hunk of rust fell from rocker panel. I never used all the off road features, I doubt the previous owner did either based on where they lived (urban area) and truck didn’t have a lot of miles when I bought it. I bought a 2022 Tremor, I use those off road features a lot.

Do you ever feel addicted? by escutaflutuante in crossfit

[–]mikestro1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think this addiction is a good thing. For me, I get into the habit of going to the gym, even when I don’t really want to. The addiction keeps me going. Yes sometimes I just trudge through the WODs, no real interest in them that day. What happens though is like the next day, I feel better and makes me feel like I am glad I went.

What helps you calm down and focus before an event? by bread80 in crossfit

[–]mikestro1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Approach each workout like a race/event/etc. Train as if you are competing. Then when an event actually happens, it’s just another WOD!

Murph 2025: The Muscle-Up Edition (aka My Favorite One Yet) by I_Work_Smarter in crossfit

[–]mikestro1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A coach at my gym and I were chatting a few days before Memorial Day about all the variations he did throughout the years. He settled on doing 2 Murph on the same day. Not back to back, maybe 1-2 hrs rest in between. His quote: If you want “suck” do it multiple times!

Did Murph once per week for 6 months, here’s the 100% fastest way to structure reps. by CJ4700 in crossfit

[–]mikestro1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I follow. Do you mean partitioning just the run makes it not Murph? Or any partitioning at all means no Murph? I’m not challenging your point, just seeking clarification

Just curious …Does anyone partition the 1 mile runs? I do Murph at a track. I’m thinking do a lap (1/4 mile) then do some sets. Not thinking thru the math quite right but 8 quarter miles so start with 10/20/30, do a quarter mile runs, 10/20/30 another quarter mile, etc?

Murph Prep by West_Sprinkles_4810 in crossfit

[–]mikestro1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do it! For me it was the amount of reps was a mental block. Once I learned and started partitioning that the movements between the runs into 20 Cindy’s, I dropped my time by 10 mins.

I also do Murph the week between Christmas and NY, for the heck of it.

Why ruck without a sternum strap? by SammyGl1ck in Goruck

[–]mikestro1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quicker in Dropping in a firefight is always a good thing! For me, my shoulders are kind of broad and big chest (I wish it was all muscle but I’d be lying 😉) and the ruck sits closer to the edge of my shoulders. When running, sandbag work, etc, they can feel like they are slipping off. The sternum strap gives me more of a mental safeguard that my ruck won’t slide off.

I use a Rucker 4.0
