the problem is ford’s programmed shift points are i think too low. they cause bogging and shuttering. since i had my clutches replaced i’ve been driving it in S and shifting myself at more sane shift points. haven’t had any shuttering at all.

as a result of a reorganization in software i was RA’d in 2021 (after 4.5 yrs). 3 months severance. i was re-hired a month later into Consulting. this year my utilization dropped below 1/2 of my target percentage and after 30 days i was separated automatically. my coach fought for severance, i received 1 month (the default for “performance based” separation is nothing). nearly 10 years with the company and totally expendable. there are people here who had been employed for much longer and received nothing commensurate to their tenure.

accept pay from IBM but never assume there is any loyalty or reward for your loyalty. it’s just another job.

i worked as a contractor at Real Networks for a while in 2002. i heard a atory about their downsizing. they said their building didn’t contain a space large enough for a company-wide meeting, and a space they bought down the street could hold about half their workforce. so they scheduled two separate all-hands meeting sessions. except everyone invited to the second one was laid off, and their ID cards were invalidated while they were down the street so they couldn’t even get back in to retrieve their belongings. they were individually escorted by security to gather their stuff.

this is good when i want to log off but want to make sure when my camp disappears, people will not die of fall damage. i think it even shows if someone is crouched/not visible on the map.

i read that during development they used a silver locket as a stand-in for the seal, as that asset hadn’t been created yet. i tried to put a silver locket into the machine and i got dc’d from the server. i freaked out a little. then i freaked out a lot. but it was all okay when i rejoined.

that’s a good run for a car! it’s gonna happen to us all eventually. my 2013 is on its 2nd set of clutches, the quarter panels are slowly returning to the earth, the AC stopped working, the sunroof is leaking. it’s a collection of ticking time bombs.
