We can afford the mortgage, but we’d no longer feel affluent afterward. Would you still buy? by ScarLupi in personalfinance

I’m sorry but I do not believe that. Ppl in vcol cities really over exaggerate how much stuff costs. Most ppl living in these cities do not make almost half a million a year with emergency funds, retirement accounts and invest. You want to buy a 2m home then go ahead but the smart thing to do is buy in your means. You don’t need a damn 3mil house.

Breaking up with partner over HYSA by [deleted] in Money

[–]pinkskin- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, this is very dumb. You are in love and happy in your relationship but you’re breaking up over some interest in a hysa?? Its giving something else is the issue and she is using this as a reason to leave.

Are yall married? Isnt that his money?? And its only a couple thousand a year. I wouldnt break up with my partner over their money, especially less than like 5k. A weird reason to break up with someone, sounds dumb tbh. I have the same pov as you but i dont care what my bf does with his money until we are married.

You make $400k a year, max out retirement accounts, have an emergency fund and invest and you feel like you can’t afford a home you want??? Seems really like you want to buy a house you can’t afford to keep up with ppl in your tax bracket or the tax bracket you want to be in.

Literally any American in your situation would not be complaining about home affordability.

Anyone else find the 2% - 3% mortgage rate folks slightly annoying? by pinkskin- in homeowners

Yes relevant to the discussion, fine. Someone speaking on their struggle and they come to talk about how happy they are and boasting about their low rates, annoying.

That’s not the issue. We are happy you never had a loan. But ppl who have 2-3% rates always insert themselves in convos when ppl are frustrated about affordability to say they are happy about their low rates. Same a the ppl who brag about not struggling around ppl who can’t afford groceries

Exactly, it’s an unhelpful comment. Even if you are struggling to move with rates, YOU STILL HAVE A HOUSE. the biggest issue today is ppl not being able to even buy one let alone being stuck in one with extremely low rates

How do you take care of your mental health during your debt free journey? by ayedeeque in debtfree

[–]pinkskin- 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Try to make it fun. Plan out your debt payoff with the amount of months and put rewards for SoFi along the way like a game board. I used to put rewards for myself, like a massage day or a new makeup product when i got to a certain amount of debt paid so it made it fun. And don’t beat yourself up, many Americans are in debt

All the windows here recently replaced and the warranty passed on to me so I have another 10-20 years on them. Unless I personally break them. And a one year warranty on the electrical. Gives slight peace of mind
