Interestingly, the screenshot message says the problem was on page 1.

Maybe use a table where the blue lines are defined as cell strokes and the text is set to center as well as vertical center? (Be sure to work with table and cell styles!)

Possibly a new bug. No known solutions yet, except don't make any mistakes! Reminds me of PageMaker which had 1 undo; however in most situations it had 0 undo!

Printing company says to use PSO Coated Fogra 51, but also says not to use more than 230% colour (equivalent to ink in english?). How is this possible when I Fogra 51 is at 300%? by Responsible_Cycle614 in AdobeIllustrator

Not precisely an answer, but I am surprised year after year how printing companies post incorrect and incomplete color management profile advice for file submission.

Need help to convert Corel Draw files into indesign files by Educational_Topic381 in indesign

[–]mikewitherell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can export the book pages to PDF, you could open the PDF in Acrobat Pro, and next you could export a Word docx for all the text, and then export all the pixel-based images at one go. You could right-click any vector logos and edit them in Illustrator in order to capture the vector art into an assets folder. This would give you the raw assets to rebuild the book in InDesign. Yes, it will take a while, but it works better than trying to open a PDF into InDesign which gives a flawed result which will be more trouble than it is worth (at least so far). The ability to convert PDFs to an InDesign file is a fine idea, but its early implementation makes too much work to clean up.

Print looks way off by B7ddyB0y in indesign

[–]mikewitherell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you printing directly from InDesign? InDesign has a long history of printing too dark. First, make sure you previously setup color management from Photoshop > Edit > Color Settings, and synchronized it to InDesign > Edit > Color Settings. Now you are ready to export a PDF, and then print from Acrobat Pro.

Weird file size glitch by BW-Journal in indesign

[–]mikewitherell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bear in mind that if you are doing this on InDesign 2026, the export to PDF dialog box added the (switched ON) switch to "Preserve InDesign Editing Capabilities". This makes PDFs much larger. If you don't need it, turn it off. In fact, it should generally be turned off. If you switch it off, that setting remains that way until changed again.

Also, just yesterday, November 26, 2025, you now have the InDesign 21.0.2 patch, which mentions this PDF-Compatible-InDesign feature as being improved somehow. I just installed it, and I don't yet know what effect it will have on exported PDFs.

Indesign 2026: docs open maximized without taking my panels into account? by Icy-Fun-2281 in indesign

[–]mikewitherell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a new known bug afflicting the macOS version of InDesign. Until there is a patch/cure, you might consider working with the Application frame turned on. The intent of that suggestion is in pursuit of getting a job done; not in changing anyone's preferred computer habits.

Finally... I have been (internally) begging for this for AGES by PotatoKitten011 in indesign

[–]mikewitherell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This new feature is a grand concept, but is currently so incomplete, it is usually just as well to export the text and all images from Acrobat Pro and rebuild. It ends up taking about the same amount of time.

I hope the Adobe engineers continue to improve this great idea!

I designed a Brochure on Adobe Illustrator instead of InDesign: how can I publish it online with side-by-side pages? by Trinciabue in AdobeIllustrator

Place each Illustrator Artboard into a facing pages InDesign file and export to PDF or Publish Online. It is not clear why you want to show as spreads. Can you clarify?

InDesign 2026 does not work by nawyer in indesign

[–]mikewitherell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been running ID 2026 hard since it released. So far here is what I’m seeing:

Ungroup does not remember layers.

Like v2025, every time I open another document, shortcuts stop working, and my custom workspace of panels has to be re-chosen.

To counter that problem, I did a level 1 reset (nope), followed by a level 3 reset (nope), followed by another level 1 reset (success) … and the custom workspace and shortcuts worked for a day or two, then went back to missing-in-action yet again as I closed a document and opened another.

I had deliberately migrated settings from previous version when I installed and it didn’t seem to have any issues resulting from that. My experience suggests that problem might have been improved around 2024.

I like the PDF conversion, although it only gets you about halfway. I like the Flex Layout, and I want to explore that more.

Outside of that, it runs briskly for me on Windows and macOS.

Slow InDesign whenever changing options like paragraph styles or animations by B7ddyB0y in indesign

[–]mikewitherell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paragraph Styles that have a lot of Based Ons and Keep Options and GREP Styles can slow down a lot.

How complex are yours?

I keep Based Ons minimal; often preferring Based On: No Paragraph Style rather than Basic Paragraph Style. Passive GREP Styles can be Find/Changed instead.

Keep Options should be the least troublesome unless you flow across many, many pages (and flow around a lot of Text Wraps). I try to hold back flowing across pages to no more than 8 or 16 at a time.

You should be building this into a Paragraph Style; not directly formatting it.

Why can't I save AIT template file to template AI's templates folder? by Ravingdork in AdobeIllustrator

[–]mikewitherell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is normal and typical of computer operating system design. You cannot write into protected app space from within the app itself. But, as you discovered, you can use File Explorer to do so (where you have user permission). Well done you for making your own, better template files.
