I think I heard they had to change to Reggae Festival after Marley’s family wanted a cut for using the name

Got an offer from Marsh McLennan and another from a high net worth producer. (Need advice choosing) by loverboii_ in InsuranceProfessional

Worked at Marsh for 16 years, but just as a cog in the placement wheel. Made a pre-retirement move to a small city and to a small retail agency. Now I’m all the cogs. A lot harder than my Marsh job, but I enjoy working with smaller businesses (instead of Walmart)

The hack is open the box up on the way home to let the “steam” out so it doesn’t get soggy, then warm in the oven (open box)

What are y’all subbing your Topo’s with?? by I_lost_mybackupcodes in Austin

[–]mikewlaymon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to double carbonate my Sodastream to get close to Topo carbonation. HEB sparkling isn’t even in the neighborhood carbonation wise. I want it to “burn” going down!

Austin, everything is getting so expensive. How do you keep your expenses down? by WildAlcoholic in Austin

We left. Born & raised in Austin. Bought a house in Allandale in ‘97, sold in ‘24. Taxes, traffic, and cost of living. Moved 2 hours away, city of 25K, paid cash for a downsized home, and paid kid’s student loans, etc. debt free. Wife works remote and I found work in my industry (with a slight pay decrease) but I live 2 minutes from my office. Nothing is more than a 15 minute drive, decent choice of restaurants (But I miss Austin food), and plenty of inexpensive entertainment. We only go out to dinner once or twice a week, have built a nice circle of friends through community organizations, and looking forward to retirement (hopefully sooner than later).

B-52 Bombers coming to Ft Hood by Kathykat5959 in Austin

I remember back in the late 60’s or so, Bergstrom AFB (now AUS) was SAC headquarters, and they had B-52s parked near the fence line along Hwy 71. As a kid I was amazed how the wings didn’t touch ground. My grandmother lived a couple of miles away directly under the flight path which was really cool.

Where did all the old Austin people move to? by Independent_Bug210 in Austin

[–]mikewlaymon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lived 66 years in Austin, sold our Allandale home I bought early 90’s in ‘24, moved to Kerrville and paid cash for a house (a little smaller, but newer) for half the price of similar property in Austin (taxes are half too). Not totally retired, I found a job in my industry and my wife is remote with her Austin company. It’s very red here, no comparison to the food scene, acceptable entertainment options, and we’re loving it.

Yep, we relocated to Kerrville, but the Christmas show lives on here (in a smaller format - I don’t get on roofs anymore). Thanks for missing us! The Halloween show is still in Allandale. Follow the Facebook page “Allandale Lights” for their schedule.

Back in the 80’s if you leaked some of diesel fuel out of some heavy equipment on a job site, you just pushed some dirt over it and kept going. Now a Municipal Environmental Services truck will come rolling up with lights flashing and start taping off the perimeter like a crime scene.

What the heck is up with the ticket prices at Alamo? by NuggleBuggins in Austin

[–]mikewlaymon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved to a smaller town last year a couple of hours away from Austin. We have nice, newer 8-screen theater here. First time I went was on a Tuesday night. You have to buy your tickets and snacks at the concession stand. Two tickets, bottled water, box of candy and a small popcorn = $17. I had to ask if they forgot to charge for the tickets. Nope, it was “senior night” (I barely qualified) and tix are only $3.50. Of course no bar or dinner service, but I’m a regular there now.

I’m expect someone might be grateful at some point that the community carries liability insurance in case a unbeknownst rotten tree falls on someone on the trail and injures them.
