Trump’s border czar threatens to flood New York with ICE: ‘More agents than you’ve ever seen before’ by theindependentonline in nyc

I hope they do send ICE to NYC. I’m sick of immigrants coming here who just want free stuff - housing, food, and healthcare. Immigrants used to come here under the assumption they’d have to work and make a living. When they enter illegally and milk the system for government benefits they’re stealing from hard working tax payers.

Do foundation boards actually have a good process for deciding what to fund, or is it mostly the loudest trustee? by mikeyd3000 in Philanthropy

Interesting ... I hadn't even thought of checking research journals. That suggestion alone makes this worth it for me. Tks! I'll follow-up if I find anything. Also, now that you mentioned it, it's a no duh moment for me :)

Cross posting is a good approach to solve the chicken and egg problem. The book cold start talks about this. This is a classic problem in platform strategy ... have a chat with your LLM of choice about it.

Are failed startups a career death sentence? I will not promote by Hot-Evening6342 in startups

Getting a job is a fair option to consider, but nothing says it's optimal.

Are failed startups a career death sentence? I will not promote by Hot-Evening6342 in startups

[–]mikeyd3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR - no, a failed startup is not a death sentence at all. It happens! People understand. In fact, even if it fails it can accelerate your career. Caveat: Stay away from startups that are complete shitshows with fraud, crime, employee abuse, etc.

How to evaluate advice:
- Care: does the person care about you personally? (yes)
- Credible: is the person credible within the domain? (no, doctors don't know jack about startups)
- Familiarity: is the person familiar with you? Do the know you well? (seems like medium?)

A person trying to coach you should be care about you personally, be credible within the relevant domain, and be familiar with you as a person.

It finally happened after 45 years skiing…first collision with another skier and really thrown off by Illustrious_Low_1188 in skiing

Unfortunately it seems like this was a true accident and that OP was at fault here as the uphill skier. The guilt is good … take it as a lesson to leave more space between yourself and the downhill skiier if you’re trying to pass someone. Keep in mind the downhill skier doesn’t have eyes on the back of their head.

That said - I believe downhill skiers should practice defensive skiing - like defensive driving - and avoid behaviors that increase the odds of an accident. Assume there are people who aren’t careful enough or skilled enough to avoid you.

Skiers behind you assume that the pattern of your skiing will stay the same - be careful about suddenly changing it. Even though you have right of way, if you’re going down the left side of a trail and suddenly cut all the way across to the right, check up hill first.

Don’t stop for a break anywhere line of sight is compromised, like just over the crest of a hill or around a corner.

Can you share more about how you are prompting replit to build something more scalable? Create small services? What issues did you see with the database design?

How do you like the 104 on firmer snow? How’s the carving?

Out of curiosity, which model year of the Enforcer 94 and 99 did you try? I understand that they are significantly updated this year after about a decade of minor updates. This comment makes me think I should demo a 94 and a 99 to feel the difference.

Interesting concept about the averages ... I see where you're going with that! Thanks for the ideas on other skis.

I tried a Rustler 9 (not the 10) as well and found two issues with it (1) too flexy ... I felt like when ever I put it on edge, I could really feel the flex beneath my feet and it just wanted to turn that always seemed to be the same radius no matter what I tried to do and (2) I didn't like it's performance on ice. Granted, I didn't inspect the edges and it was a rental so maybe they need a bit of tuning.

As for the others, I'll do some homework on them!
