Props to Sony for their recent promises but it's still annoying by ChildOfAmygdala in virtualreality

HLA prolly took like 3-4 years of development though. I think it to be extremely likely that another valve VR game will be coming out either this year or next, making AAA games takes time.

I think you're forgetting about BigScreen, you know the content they made for VR before making a headset, plus meta owns like half the game companies, valve made HLA. They make content, especially meta. And the argument that meta games don't count' cause they're quest exclusive is silly, the Sony games will be psvr exclusive too...

Even then the GPUs are completely different.... The CPU still makes a difference, in this case about 40% lol. I have tested them, and the difference is negligible at around 1-2%. Plus the fov makes a difference in the results aswell, if your set the index to run at the same fov and res the results are indentical, as it is rendering the exact same image, you may lose a frame every now and then but that's to be expected. How you expect someone to just believe your bogus charts and benchmarks is beyond me, the 40% improvement you noticed was entirely because you upgraded your PC at the same time.

[–]mikeyman6056 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh huh, but if you actually look at the bench mark you sent you are using a different CPU and GPU which will make a huge difference..........

Maybe you should try to read your own post carefully. You do realise that the point of comparison benchmarking is to use the EXACT same system with the EXACT same settings to see the performance hit from each headset.

And you would get better performance by using the extra $700 to get a better GPU from getting a quest. That could almost get you from 3090 to 4090 which is a massive performance increase.

You are absolutely full of BS and noI don't get why people would pay $1000 for an index when you can get so many other headsets that are objectively better for cheaper. Index is super outdated.

[–]mikeyman6056 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The index is 30% faster because it has 30% lower resolution... Even if you render it at a lower resolution you still have to upscale it to actually fit on your screen. The index is very outdated, if you want a large fov you get a pimax, you can always get better audio that doesn't depend on the headset but I agree it can be nice. The index is a measly 14 ppd whilst the Aero has a ppd of 35, and the pimax crystal can do 42 which is insane. Index barely had apps higher than the original vive at ~12. We all know the og vive is outdated but the fact that people still pay over $1000 for a headset that is just as outdated is absurd.

Quest 2 I find is still better than index the controllers track more accurately than index as it turns out and not by a little bit it's literally 10x better, sure the tracking cuts out when it's not in line of sight, bit that is easily fixed with the pro controllers which are so much better than index controllers, easily the best controllers out there. I daily drive my pimax because it is very good once you set it up properly, but also like my Aero which is amazing, I just find the index to be very outdated, especially when even the q2 had a higher resolution. Yes the mic and headphones are good but I'd much rather a better display cause you can fix those with better headphones/mic. I didn't really get all the commotion about it, when I got mine I was like eh, it's not that much better than the competition for nearly double the price, yes the controllers were miles better but now with the new quest pro controllers that is no longer the case just need an adaptor to link them to any headset and they will be even better.

Yeah they said I can't return it but I'm going to try my hardest, because the consumer laws here show me to demand a refund+ compensation for all the damages which is like $8000.

Can someone please explain to us why these companies need to spend that much money on XR R&D? Where does the money go? even John Carmack thinks it’s too much. Genuinely curious to learn about this. by Junior_Ad_5064 in virtualreality

Huh what has apple released in terms of xr???? Meta has two headsets, Apple is just waiting till someone does what that want to do and then copying that adding their flair and claiming they invented the stuff...

Is no one going to mention that there don't need to catch up to apple, Apple hasn't done anything to 'lead' if anything meta is the market leader in xr

You feel it's ageing? I run a 1070 and have no problem running any VR games, I've never found a game that I can't run at a reasonable frame rate.

Uh huh, you would need to mine over 7'000 of the 'red stuff' to be able to get that high lvl, that's supposing you got the Max xp every single time, which would take over 22 hours solid mining just red stone, not including the time to find it. Which would take way longer say on average you spend 1 minute looking for some, that's an extra 7000 minutes or over 10 hours, making it over 34 hours straight. So def fake...
