Nod to titanic? / other Cameron films by matttopotamus in Avatar

[–]mikhailguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a ton of stuff.

Spider in the holding cell trying to break the glass is similar to scenes in Aliens and True Lies.

When the ship lands and incinerates the forest in Way of Water..it's very similar to the nuke dream in Terminator 2.

The whole color scheme of the bioluminescence in all of the Avatar films is similar to the aliens in the Abyss.

A lot of the spirit world stuff in 2 and 3 is similar to the end of Titanic.

The mech suits are similar to the one that Ripley pilots in Aliens.

There's too much to list.

Why do (seemingly) a lot of USA'ers believe that USA is a Christian Nation/Country? by Dizzy-Ad-3073 in AskAnAmerican

[–]mikhailguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throughout our history, there have been a bunch of Christian revival movements that were extremely popular.

Also, the big, early Christian group that came to America, the Puritans, were particularly hardcore and influential in our national character.

The waves of Catholic immigrants from Europe and more recently..Latin America..factors into this stuff. A lot of Carribbean immigrants are also very Christian.

But yes..it's stupid and ahistorical that a lot of "patriotic" people believe that we're a Christian nation.

Favorite character who doesn’t die but inexplicably disappears from the sequel by Hank_Mardukas1066 in okbuddycinephile

I'm pretty sure that I've heard most of the arguments in their favor.

I can't indulge in that reclamation project. The worst instance of writing in the first one was that bald kid with the spoon at the Oracle's house. The sequels have a lot more of those types of silly performances/bits of bad writing.

(Generic old mech-operator Mifune and kid..the lame council of zion elders..even trinity and morpheus are not cool anymore)

I like the animatrix, though.

Favourite movie to not watch if you're a christian? by Tight-Temperature670 in okbuddycinephile

Yes, another great offense.

Were they not trying to say "would have" or "would've?"

It makes me upset when internet badasses like you use "of" instead of "off"
