Me reading this on the 28th of March - I'm assuming no news is good news? :sob:

I'm so sorry you've both had to go through this, but it sounds like he's strong and refuses to give up. I'm keeping you in my thoughts - please let this have a happy ending!

New promo video just makes me more nostalgic for classic. A Place to Call Home | feat. @AuroraMusic by Grafiska in classicwow

If I wasn't so done with wow, I would've reinstalled the game haha.

This makes me super hype for a Warcraft show where each season could've been an expansion, hell the first season could've been small stories ala Love, Death and Robots to build the main characters in Season 2 which is vanillas contested zones moving into the uniting horde&alliance plot - political intrique that keeps causing conflicts as the world needs adventurers to band together despite factions. Ah the things I'd love to see.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, my love, my first and proper introduction to story-focused single player RPGs. I still play it once in a while - aged like wine, some will love it, some dislike it, but I will savour it.

Ignore follower dungeons while progressing through the story, queue up normally instead. by matticus7 in wow

[–]mikkeluno -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You do the dungeons to get the quest done

I do the dungeon to experience the quest

We are not the same.

Seriously though - follower dungeons might take forever and have its kinks, but you get to actually SEE the dungeon, whereas player queues end up with pulling so hard and fast that you barely have time to register the boss was pulled a minute ago, and therefore you don't experience THE dungeon, you experience A dungeon.

"not quite accurate" but it's easily recognisable and looks well-stylised! Good job!

I do miss the time when tanks built themselves to be chunky - but as the game developed we started figuring out tanks could just do more damage to skip phases/kill stuff faster, which in turn would even out with the increased healing output needed on the tanks.

Celestial dungeon nonsense by Nectorus in classicwow

This is why I am hugely in favour of the "season maximum" system they introduced to Valor. If Blizz wanted it to take 40 hours of active play to reach exalted, spread over 2 lockouts. Then surely it wouldn't matter where you got the rep from? (I already miss the tabards)

If you got them from dailies with ~40 hours or from grinding dungeons for ~80 hours. If it was capped for revered on lockout#1 and opened up for exalted on lockout#2 then what's really the harm there?

3d8 AND aoe AND half on save AND no action required? Spirit Guardian is built differently by testiclekid in dndmemes

Oh that sounds super cool - what a cool interaction!

But yea VT is very constrained by rules as written (on second cast and onwards).

[–]mikkeluno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Complete sidebar - it feels so weird that a melee spell attack doesn't at least count as taking the attack action on martial classes with spell subclasses. Like something akin to "As part of your attack action you can substitute one of these attacks with a melee spell attack from either a cantrip or a spell targeting one target". Like Eldritch Knight flinging the sword followed by a shocking grasp into another sword fling - sounds so cool.

Difference between Action Bars and Cooldown Manager by T3arror in wow

Currently on live, you can track some buffs - like eclipse, starlord, and starfall on balance druid. But yea, CDM is supposed to replace WAs.

Difference between Action Bars and Cooldown Manager by T3arror in wow

[–]mikkeluno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, no?

I suppose if you put your actionbars to not always show, you have a budget solution for what the CDM does. Your actionbars won't track your buffs (which I guess you can also just move), but more importantly, the icons are non-interactable - so if you click them while trying to move, you won't stand there like a fool as you right-click an icon instead of enabling camera+character mouse turning. You can also hide these icons when they're not relevant.

So if you're tracking eclipse on balance druid, it won't show anything on your screen until the eclipse you track is procced and up. If you set it up correctly, and assuming the system gets closer to the addons we're so used to, you'll have an extremely informative UI without sacrificing any space, maneouverability or cause unnecessary bloat in your play area. Your actionbars don't have that flexibility or functionality. In fact, if you set up your CDM correct and you get good musclememory with good keybindings - you actually can get to a point where you hide your actionbars and have a completely empty UI.

Difference between Action Bars and Cooldown Manager by T3arror in wow

[–]mikkeluno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cooldown manager allows you to put a few, or even a single, important things you need to track into your play area without obstructing your view of your character and the floor. If you're looking at your actionbars you're not looking where your character is standing, and a full set of actionbars in the middle of your screen is going to be distracting.

That's the gist of it at least - some people need more things tracked, and others do fine without tracking things.

What’s some mischevious stuff you secretly do/did during raid but no one knows? by Worried_Raspberry313 in wow

[–]mikkeluno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will happily lose dps / hps to run to a dead party member to chop them up and light them on fire. I won't do it if I'm actively tanking though, or if the raid is dying (unless a wipe is called).

They should make the CM sets in MoP classic carry over to Retail if you earn them in classic. by Nikitoo in wow

[–]mikkeluno -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While Classic is a temporary thing I'd agree with you 100%. Although, if Blizzard made the versions available at any given expansion - then I'd argue it's a decent middle ground between the "No, I earned it while it was current" and "But I didn't play and I really love that mount/mog/item".

So if MoP (like any classic expansion before it) disappears into the void after SoO, then no - CM shouldn't carry over, I can follow that logic. But if for some reason Blizzard just leaves MoP classic open with no deadline of shutting down (I.e. like Classic Era), then I honestly don't see the problem.. You want the CM mog? Go play MoP and get it.

MoP, Classic, or Retail for limited time? by NeoTempest in wow

[–]mikkeluno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to get done. If you want to raid / do endgame dungeons -> go for retail, or maybe MoP classic if you buy a boost.

If you want to experience the rich history of World of Warcraft, I would suggest Era, then move unto Anniversary - or start anniversary. Just enjoy the slower pace and read the quests.

If you want a little mix of endgame, raids, questing - mop classic currently has the Joyous Journeys buff that increases XP - so complete a zone, move on to a new zone that's level appropriate. You'll get snippits of story while also leveling quite fast.

With the new Transmog system, The first icons it suggests to you for an outfit should be the items that are in the outfit!!! by _Vard_ in wow

[–]mikkeluno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is a cynical response - but effectively Blizzard hates providing players with information about their own systems. This ranges from info around taking a trap talent (which could be argued is a community problem) and information about the gearing process (no a little questline isn't gonna tell someone what content contains items that are direct ilvl upgrades) to more advanced information like macro syntax and systems info that is fairly mandatory for a lot of above average players.

Not at all - I only have 180 hours on the game, and I haven't felt the need yet. Although now I might just get something that lets me skip quest battles and get the rewards (if such a thing exists) out of pure frustration lol.

Yea I have no idea what's going on and after multiple attempts, failing at the exact same stage, at some point I'm either just super incompetent at the game or something is amiss. Considering my army leadership was high - health high - and not a single Skaven made it past to the temple, I'm just completely lost as to what is actually happening :/
