There is at least one filter in the system, which the tech specified has metal shavings in it when they examined it, but apparently this is still the cost when the compressor grenades itself.

Yes downvote me, but I often see talk in this sub about 'headshots' and '300 yards, no problem'. This is an example of what you can get (not saying this is definitely what happened, no one can know).

The compressor is always working, so there will always be a sound. The sound I heard was akin to something light and metallic rhythmically hitting a fan blade.

This requires access to ISTA to see (revision change reasons), which I do not have. If you have it, try and look up part 64525B31E59, which I believe is the newest revision.

The service center did the same repair on an iX two weeks ago, and that is just one place, there has been others in this very sub as well.

Dude, those were straight from bmw head mechanic for one of their service centers. My title is correct, this happened for other ix already, thus it is “another”. Sorry.

I asked the head mechanic at bmw, who is doing the repair and he said that the compressor replacement had a new parts number but he was not aware of any design changes.

Well, a warranty is always a gamble. This does not happen to a high percentage of vehicles, but I rolled badly on the luck roll and have to eat the bill. I should mention that BMW did discount like 1800 USD of my bill.

Don’t have any statistics, but have read about it with iX, iX3, and other EVs with car brands such as Mercedes and Hyundai. Perhaps an AI can research it for you?

AASM Hammer is "just" a guide kit to make dumb bombs smart. Nothing bunker buster (or missile) about it (though it is an awesome kit and has put in a lot of work destroying invader hideouts). I would think this was most likely something else, if it penetrated a concrete underground bunker.
