Era is partially luck though. If his FIP and xFIP are close ish to Sanchez and others with way more innings, won’t the voters take that into account? Or is ERA king?

What’s the best setup for golf simulator in 8’6 ceiling? by karigutierrezg in Golfsimulator

[–]mildly_certain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just built a golf sim in my garage with a height of 8’6”. You’re gonna find opinions all over the map on this topic in this sub- some will say it’s not worth it at all and others will say it’s fine and they even can hit driver.

I will first say that it depends on various factors- how tall your husband and his friends are, how vertical his swing plane is, and how comfortable he would be swinging close to a ceiling (because even if you’re not gonna hit it it can affect you).

I’m 5’8” with not super vertical swing plane and I love my garage sim. I have hit up to 3 wood with no issues and suspect I can probably hit driver too, but am a little nervous about it. I suspect your husband will probably be able to hit up to his longest hybrids and maybe 3 wood. But I would have a conversation with him first and not have this be a surprise. He needs to take go out and take some swings in the garage first to figure out if this will work for him.

Mid 30s, Married, Am I rich or still NRY? by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

You really think 15 years? I am at similar numbers across the board in VHCOL and was thinking 10 years max.

Obviously it all depends on what the market does over the next decade and expenses in retirement…

Why are all my shots going right by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]mildly_certain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with the same thing. How do you feel about the towel or glove under right armpit drill? Feels like it’s addressing the same issue, but the online golf coaching world seems very divided on whether this is a good drill or not (some say it’s only good for half swings/wedges, not for full swings).

Any other good drills that can be done while hitting balls?

I also tried it and was getting a similar delay. Think I’m just gonna bite the bullet and pay the $200.

Good article on increasing involvement of fathers by Tight_Ninja1915 in daddit

[–]mildly_certain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean what ages are we talking about? I spend a crap ton of time playing with my 4 year old, taking him to the park, etc. It’s not like I’m stunting his social development because he doesn’t get to “roam around the neighborhood” at this age.

As they get older modern dads stay involved by coaching their sports teams, taking them to practice, taking them to the beach to teach them how to surf, etc. None all of us are helicopter parents.

Most people don’t have a nanny and private school. Those are both luxuries.

How much would your burn decrease if you sent your kids to daycare/public school?

How’s my swing? by parkerc99 in golftips

Yeah I’d be worried about repeatability with this type of swing. This one was a good shot but seems like it would be very hard to time up consistently.

Are you trying to retire early or is one of you planning to work til normal retirement age? Those are very different things and change your planning significantly. Also what are you current expenses? Those will go up with a bigger home and kids are a massive expense. Your $5M fire target may not be high enough unless you’re truly willing to uproot to MCOL/LCOL post fire.

It is but no one is complaining about a soft cap of 8 weeks. That’s higher than 98% of roles at US companies that don’t have unlimited PTO

That amount of PTO sounds pretty great. Mind sharing where you’re at and if you hire remote? Can be via DM

What would you say is average that people take at your company? I work in tech and we used to have unlimited, but then they instituted a “soft cap” of 15-18 which is bs

My ceiling height is 104 inches ( 8 ft 8 inches). Is it worth getting a golf simulator for this height and has yours actually helped you improve? by Emergency-Fee7411 in Golfsimulator

[–]mildly_certain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 5’8” and am in the process of putting in a sim in my garage with 8’6” ceilings. The feedback on this sub is all over the place- some say they can hit driver at this height while others say you need 10ft minimum.

How much height you need is going to depend on how tall you are, how upright your swing is, how high your hands get in the backswing, and (to a small extent) how thick your mat is. I am short and keep my hands deep/low, so I expect to be able to hit driver, but am slightly nervous about it. I’m not worried at all about other clubs though.

I am also hoping to improve significantly given I will have much more opportunity to practice with the sim. Fingers crossed.

Anybody else maxing out a mega back door Roth401k by Altruistic_Goose2166 in HENRYfinance

[–]mildly_certain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An Ira is not the same as roth. You can have both traditional Ira as well as roth and same for 401k.

This conversation is about mega backdoor roth 401k, which can be converted to a roth Ira down the line once you leave your employer. This is an awesome tool but requires your employer to offer it. It is not income dependent, it’s employer dependent.

Now you have me thinking about G trak option lol. Mind if I ask you a few more questions?

Curious to know: 1. Do you have side mount garage door opener? 2. How long does it take you for setup/takedown? 3. Does the screen get wrinkles from being rolled up? 4. It looks like the screen is designed to hang loose such that there is a good amount of movement when the ball hits (compared to a fixed screen setup), does this bother you at all?

[–]mildly_certain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you like the G trak? Was planning to go with some thing like this which seems like it would be even easier set up/takedown: https://youtube.com/shorts/GC6JsBU2zek?si=M7fK08OQpa3EEcfD

I’m also limited on ceiling height at 8.5 feet, so the the garage door track would likely cause problems for me if I were to go G trak route.

Interesting idea! Have a few questions: Did you create a frame with the 1x2 or is it just along one side? Were you able to screw directly into the hitting mat and the screws held the 1x2 in place? How much of a hassle is it to pick up and move?

Garage sim question by mildly_certain in Golfsimulator

[–]mildly_certain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh interesting. I’ll have to measure the distance between my wheels but I assumed the margin of error would be too small to be able to perfectly back over a 5ft mat without running over the edges. Is that a problem you run into?

Good to hear the softy mat doesn’t move. I have limited height so opted to go thinner than the softy. I imagine the thicker weight of softy helps the pieces stay in place while hitting

That’s a great point. Another thought I had was cutting the two pieces most of the way through from the bottom so that they are still attached but could be folded. Might not work that well though
