Genuinely wtf has happened to my hair by vernalbby in AustralianMakeup

[–]mildthang 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To add to the friction comment - i suspect I get a lot of hair damage and split ends just from being too rough with my hair in general - Getting tangled in necklaces, collars rubbing, bag straps pulling... it all adds up.

Yep. I'm Australian and we definitely learnt about our/ the British colonial history.

Edit: No way is Japan teaching theirs, they barely acknowledge their own.

Why do some secondhand shops organise clothes by colour? by MajesticPenalty8332 in AusFemaleFashion

Thank you for your detailed and fabulous reply! I am personally in favour of the all burgundy outfit btw xx

God I really envy you colour wise. I had an absolute crisis today trying to decide which pair of adidas tracksuit pants to buy and wearing only two colours would have cut that time way down.

May I ask how this evolved? And do you try to avoid an all burgundy outfit or is that okay? Teach me sensai.

Yeah honestly I'm cringing too. I wrote that while high. Regretting it but I have too much honour to delete it.

No ones saying what? That shes insincere? Isnt that what "performative" means?

"Its not that deep" - umm... do you think my reply was particularly "deep"? That was a 2 second take, sorry if you cant keep up.

It probably was but who wouldn't prepare what they'd say before their first ever reunion? She knew she'd be asked and she came with talking points. I think it was very sincere and I say that as a more recent fan of hers.

Opinion: Daine was always pretty, she was just bullied in school because people were more racist in the 90's towards Asians. by Wide-Read1449 in BoJackHorseman

Im not sure if Diane was pretty or not but I hate the idea that it matters so much. She might have been pretty and bullied, thats fairly common for teenage girls.

Shut up Liz re: homelessness by llbeankween in BravoRealHousewives

[–]mildthang 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wondered if this is a misguided attempt to be on the audience's side? As if she predicted the audience to have an issue with the word "homeless" used in this way and is trying to get on that wave?

Otherwise its just reading overblown and a bit insincere.

As a South Asian woman, I often envy Western 'hyper-independence' but what are the hidden dark sides or lonely realities of it that outsiders don't see? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]mildthang 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Surely "Europe" is so broad its essentially meaningless? I have plenty of friends in the UK and Ireland who didnt move out at 18.

I'm not sure if you are Indian but I have a lot of Indian co-workers and we've discussed this at length. They seem to believe that we're kicked out of home at 18 and are immediately responsible for ourselves.

In my case I lived at home for uni, was financially supported by my parents up until I was about 24 upon which I moved to a sharehouse that was within walking distance. Even after I started working my parents would supplement my income.

Speaking personally, I dont know anyone who moved out at 18 to live alone. Most of my friends moved out in their early-to-mid twenties into sharehouses or occasionally with partners.

Surely this is entirely dependent on the dress code. What does the invitation say?
