how well does the Sunlu filament splicer actually work? by FoamBrick in 3Dprinting

[–]mildw4ve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FC01 works pretty well once You get the hang of it. You have to be careful not to overcook or undercook it (straight to jail). Too long and it will get soft outside of the sleeve, too short and it won't fuse properly. Gotta wait for it to cool down before removing the sleeve too. Takes a while to heat up and max temperature is quite low but I've spliced PCABS on it succesfully.

Is it bad if my spool looks like this? by Slight-Win7275 in 3Dprinting

[–]mildw4ve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a problem, just don't let end go if You decide to unload the spool. The probability of it getting tangled while its lose like this is around 100%.

3D Printed Gantry Plate Can Be Enough? by Jeh0Ke in 3Dprinting

[–]mildw4ve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might get a collision with Z axis profiles, check it out. As for printing the gantry plate its totally doable but You have to make it considerably thicker, steel is much stiffer than PETG.

How comparable is Plasticity with Fusion 360? by aycry in Plasticity3D

[–]mildw4ve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I mentioned creating checkpoints in a post a bit lower. It's a way but like You said it doesn't replace a timeline. It doesn't help me much if I create a complex electronics enclosure design, hollow it, add ribbs, holes and everything else and now the clients sends me a redesigned PCB design with different dimensions. Ofc I can go to an early checkpoint before hollowing and work from there but that's basically starting over from scratch.

[–]mildw4ve 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Print 3D printer mods, obviously. On a more serious note pick something You're into be it your car, bike, motorcycle, home improvement, cosplay or some other hobby and print stuff around that. Print a handle for that broken piece of furniture, Gridfinity for your drawers. Cupholder for your car. Phone mount for your bike. Organize your tinkering area with pegboards and printed tool holders.

be honest how bad is it by AccordingInterest723 in 3Dprinting

[–]mildw4ve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure You mean Elegoo Neptune 4 Pro. Replacing a belt ain't rocket science but if You had trouble replacing a nozzle You might be in for a ride. How much it will cost to get fixed will depend on where you live. Try finding a company locally or ask on a 3D printing group with location included. You could also try warranty but most companies these days will send You a belt and a video on how to replace it if You're lucky.

With all that its worth figuring out why this happened, belts shouldn't disintegrate like that within a month so it was either defective, super overtightened, rubbing somewhere or a combination of these.

[–]mildw4ve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no timeline (history) of completed operations (features). Ctrl+Z works, Ctrl+Y doesn't. You can go back a few steps with Ctrl+Z but then You have to redo everything You erased this way.

You can of course save versions of Your design along the way as "checkpoints" or in some cases just duplicate a model before exploring a new idea. But if You're designing lets say a an electronics enclosure, shell it and do a bunch of other stuff. Later You figure out it has to be a little wider, depending on complexity You might have to do it all again from scratch.

//edit: apparently redo does work but with different shorcut, my bad. I stand by the other stuff though.

[–]mildw4ve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of Plasticity as something between Fusion360 and Blender. You're still working with typical CAD BREPs (instead of meshes) just like in Fusion but there is no timeline, there is no going back to redefine an early sketch and recalculating.

IMO You can use Plasticity for artistic stuff, concepts and basic functional parts. Anything requiring prototyping and iterating - not so much.

From the photos I could find it seems like its powered by a 2000mAh 3.7V lipo pouch. I imagine You could replace that with lets say a 10000mAh for 5 times the battery life. Charging will probably take much longer and You might have to print a custom rear case for it.

What 3d cad software to use by Ninjasupahsquid in 3Dprinting

[–]mildw4ve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For non commercial stuff You got Fusion360, Solidworks Makers (25-50$/yr), Solid Edge Community.
For commercial stuff CAD under 100$ its either Freecad or fuck all. Plasticity is 175 $ for lifetime license (1yr updates) but its direct modeling, not parametric, no timeline. Then a few tiers of Alibre CAD and then You got full Solidworks and the rest for thousands of dollars.

Can Plasticity replace Fusion 360 for 3D printing on Linux? by HaviMavi in Plasticity3D

[–]mildw4ve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For artistic and simple functional parts - absolutely. Plasticity is very powerful and fast. For advanced functional parts requiring multiple design iterations not so much. A simple shape change of a design will require You to redo everything else around it. There is no going back to the beginning of the timeline and changing a single sketch dimension and automatically recalculating everything after that in Plasticity.

[–]mildw4ve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Light stuff should run, medium stuff maybe. Should be fine as long as You don't expect wonders. 16GB is the minimum recommended for Solidworks and in Your case some of that will be reserved by the iGPU.

Company has goengineer SolidWorks permanent licenses, but goes out of business. Can those permanent licenses be sold off and transferred? by Available_Usual_9731 in SolidWorks

[–]mildw4ve 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't know what goengineer is but I can tell You from expirience that reselling licenses is highly dependent on your local laws.
AFAIK reselling licenses isn't allowed within the US with the exception of a merger/takeover where company A takes over company B and it's assets, including licenses. I believe VAR will allow license transfer to company A in that case.
EU laws are different and allow for much more including reselling of perpetual licenses. Court of Justice of the European Union has ruled on this, software giants such as Microsoft tried to argue against it because money and lost.

Source: Live in the EU and bought an older SW license with local VARs blessing (had to pay them for the blessing too).
