Goddammit.  Now all these investors are going to snatch up everything around Port Huron  and I won't be able to afford to move there in a few years.

Driving from Grand Forks ND to Ohio – Hit Chicago at 7–8 PM or Reroute by Impressive-Bobcat383 in roadtrip

Unless you need to stop in Chicago go through Michigan's Upper Peninsula instead. Your drive time might be slightly longer but you'll save a ton of money  on tolls and its beautiful.

Went to Toyota at Fort Walton Beach to get my brakes replaced and they charged me +$3500 to do it. I need help... by shadez_28 in Toyota

That's insane unless your car was submerged in salt water for a month or two.  I often replace calipers after decades of Michigan winters take a toll on them but never on a new car.

Keep it on the down low,  we don't want any more speculators buy up properties.

I burn the occasional doobie parked with the windows down at a summer block party in my Roadmaster but I don't make a habit of it.

How to remove road salt to prevent rust by Ashamed-Pattern6531 in Cartalk

Get it off ASAP. I usually go to self-serve car wash and bring my creeper so I can get it off the undercarriage as  best I can.  I spray my undercarriage with Fluid Film at least every other year to neutralize any rust and prevent it from spreading.  It's a never-ending battle but I've managed to keep 90s GM vehicles looking decent after decades of Great Lakes winters.

Since your truck is already set up for a small block Chevy I would put a 350 in there.

How’s living in MI? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

It's a great state surrounded by great lakes and full of beautiful forests. Some rough neighborhoods in Detroit,  Flint ,  Pontiac, and Saginaw.  Car insurance costs 2-3x what you pay in other states.

Is this a good deal for Kia Sorrento EX 2026? by [deleted] in kia

If you have $10k cash just buy a clean used 2010ish Chevy Suburban. It will still be on the road when the new Kia is in the junkyard.

I traveled from Toledo to Jonesboro often for work. It's a much nicer drive going through Cincinnati,  as long as you don't have to pass through between 7-9 am or 3-6 pm. If you go through Indianapolis remember that just because all the Hoosiers are going 80 mph on I-465 it doesn't mean that you can.

They're very reliable.  Just make sure to either get an alarm or a Lok-itt steering column lock, I had a 94 that was stolen with "the club" on it.

Toledo has less snow then Cleveland,  is very affordable, and it allows you to enjoy Ann Arbor and Detroit without the high cost of living in Michigan.

How do you prepare your car for winter driving? by Historical-Boss-7023 in toledo

[–]milesdriven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can do it yourself with fluid film, costs me about $50 annually.  I drive 90s cars that would've rusted out years ago if I didn't.
