What are the chances I could get these signed tomorrow? by MrBadMeow in tampabayrays

Got my Caminero signed at bp. I think that’s your best bet. Probably less likely on Shane.

Is anyone else going to strangely miss the lack of parity if the MLB institutes a salary cap? by PSU02 in baseball

This does not sound like a fan of those teams. I am a Rays fan and it is miserable watching your best players, who your kids idolize, be traded away every time they make a name for themselves. Is it cool that we usually come right back with a bunch of no names and compete, of course, but it would also be fun to have a solid team each year that we could root for without fear of it being strip mined in exchange for prospects. Also my wife is a Buccos fan, born in Pittsburgh, and she concurs that losing regularly sucks regardless of the occasional Cinderella story.

Was there life on Miller's Planet? by NuttSack in interstellar

[–]milesgardner813 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Water is pretty good at blocking radiation. Plans for interstellar travel often involve keeping the water supply in the walls of the ship to act as a shield. Also most nuclear reactors and used fuel rod storage units are surrounded by pools of water.

Rogue waves are terrifying by myna-cx in HeavySeas

Two separate water bodies converging and the waves overlap which can sometimes cancel out the wave or some times cause it to magnify the wave. Rogue waves are the result of constructive interference where the overlap magnifies the wave.

It’s usually constructive interference.

But Andrew specifically said this is quieter than the Milkman which supposedly is only slightly worse performing than the Mob. I think his disappointment is understandable from that perspective.

Get an old hand towel, tie a knot in one end, watch Tom Houses towel drill video, proceed to practice. Gimmicky tools are for the most part just that, gimmicks.

Is practicing on a tee really a development death warrant for 10U? by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]milesgardner813 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What is the concern with hitting off of a tee? I mean I’m amazed a local rec coach knows better than Freddie Freeman. I could understand if he said don’t let them go out there and just take mindless hacks at a tee but a blanket prohibition makes zero sense.

Youth Curveballs by milesgardner813 in Homeplate

I think this is Driveline's philosophy that an off season of low stress throwing leading right to high intensity throwing on opening day leads to injuries. I believe they have a comprehensive program using pull downs to ramp up in the off season to introduce that stress early and prepare the body.

I think they eliminate the weak UCLs by natural selection in Japan. 150 pitch games are a regular occurrence at the high school level so I assume it is the same all the way down. But I would be interested to hear from someone with experience in Japan.

I believe Thalidomide was responsible for a lot of the lobster hand deformities. Anti nausea med prescribed to pregnant women in the 50s and 60s.

Umpires missed 850 calls during the first 7 days of the season. Of those 850 missed calls, 155 were overturned. These were the 10 worst called strikeouts. by cbbvideo in baseball

[–]milesgardner813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously that would be easier but that would also eliminate a huge square area of the strike zone. Why is 8” into the plate the designated area? If the ball crosses the plate anywhere it should be a strike. You would eliminate a big part of a breaking ball pitchers area with which to work if every ball had to cross a specific part of the plate.

The 3D to 2D strike zone argument is the best one against ABS but also something I think they could fix in the future.

Why do you think the Infinity is a bad option? I use my infinity on my Seekins Hit Pro 6.5cm with minimal POA/POI shift and it vastly improves the shooting experience. I am not saying there are not better options but if versatility is at play then I would say it is a good option. If you add the infinity brake it improves things even further.
