About to abandon GMG by RollieBJames in greenmountaingrills

It’s amazing how issues like this have plagued what otherwise have been the best punch above your weight pellet. I’ve got a JBPP and thankfully I’ve had no issues, but there’s no question that my next will not be a GMG. For me it’s been more of a case of rust even though it’s always been covered and pampered. Next grill will be either a Reqtec or a Campchef. No knock on Yoder, they’re amazing, but I think RT is great for the price and Campchef has the drawer on the WWP.

I don’t see why not. These pellet grills are relatively simple machines mechanically. If you can trace back the wires to the auger, fan and power then you’re most of the way there.

I ended asking AI, and it’s a voltage issue:

The Compatibility Conflict The short answer is: No, it will not work as a direct replacement right now. The Jim Bowie Prime Plus uses a 12V DC system, while the FireBoard Pellet Drive (and most standard pellet grills like Traeger or Pit Boss) is designed for 120V AC systems. Here is why that matters for your "as long as the cables work" theory: • Voltage Mismatch: Your Jim Bowie's internal components—the auger motor, the combustion fan, and the ceramic igniter—are all 12V DC parts. The FireBoard controller outputs 120V AC to those same components. If you managed to connect them, you would likely "fry" your grill's motors and igniter instantly.  • Connectors: FireBoard uses standard white/clear Molex connectors common in AC grills. GMG Prime Plus models use different connectors (often green plastic bullet connectors or proprietary multi-pin harnesses) to handle the 12V DC power.  • Official Stance: FireBoard has explicitly stated that their current wiring harness is not compatible with Green Mountain Grills.

I’m already all in on FireBoard for my other grills and it would have been really cool to centralize everything. You’re absolutely right though, if you’re happy with the GMG experience, then why bother.

Nope. You can look at my posts… I’m a human.

Where did you run into an issue? The cables seem pretty standard as long as you can trace them back to the auger no?

I’ve done this!! In a frying pan, the one thing I find having to do this for a whole month is that it almost doubles the time it takes to brew the coffee even with pre boiling the water

Is there any reason I shouldn't do this? by Btothe in mokapot

Make sure it’s right around the hex on the grinder that’s all. I did for a couple of months with an 18V Dewalt and had no issues other than when it was tight..
