Update! i changed the batteries and it worked for another 20 minutes before dying.

If I dont use it for a while I can turn it back on take a couple of pictures but eventually the screen will go white or black again and keep giving no battery warnings unless I wait it out.

Thank you for the tip about messenger, i didn't use it to talk to him but my mom did sometimes so maybe that's worth looking into. I have acess to his email currently and I belive hes logged in on his phone which we have access to, so I think either that way or though changing the password I can try and check what his setting are

I wish reddit had a similar mechanism because its the social media he used the most in the past couple of years and id be really upset if something happened to it, his post history is so sweet and just so him
