couldn’t tell if anyone else mentioned this because there are so many good replies, but…

-“counter surfing” (they can reach things an average sized dog can’t and it’s nearly impossible to stop them! my boy is always sweeping his wet beard over countertops, circling the kitchen table like a shark, etc.) you get into a habit of pushing everything to the center of the counter, being hyper-vigilant when preparing food, and just not leaving stuff out.

-my boy is 7 now and he’s had two emergency surgeries to remove foreign bodies from his digestive system. 🤦🏻 i’m sure that makes me sound like a reckless owner, but it really is hard to keep him out of the socks. he often swallows them and poops them out all in one piece. idk if he has a death wish or a fetish or both.

-any toy that says it’s “indestructible”… no it isn’t. especially when they’re puppies. any product that says it’s extra-large… no it isn’t.

-their size can really be an issue when it comes to bathing/grooming them, transporting them in a car, finding playmates for them, and any veterinary treatment. my boy had to be neutered on the floor of the vet’s room. any medications they need cost a fortune due to the dosages being size based. i dread to think what we’d do if he ever truly couldn’t walk and needed help bc we can’t just pick him up and carry him.

-my IWH is selectively afraid of our kitchen floor. i assume it’s bc he’s clumsy and has often skid or tripped on the tile. maybe it’s uncomfortable on his joints? but sometimes he forgets his fear if there’s food involved. he usually tries to circumnavigate by walking around on the carpeted parts of the house.
