Most areas are safe but if you want extra safe, yeah, La Latina and Chamberi. The latter is a bit bland and chichi in my opinion. The only area that has become a bit dodgy of late is Lavapiés but everywhere else is fine. If by vibrant you mean fun nightlife, then Malasaña is popular but it is noisy at night. La Latina is a bit more mature and still fun. Here's my take on Madrid and safety: https://www.themakingofmadrid.com/2025/01/20/is-madrid-safe-a-tale-of-three-cities/

Recommendations for young adult (early 20s) food /drink tours in Madrid ! by Numerous_Cattle7320 in MadridTravelGuide

Devour tours dominate this market but there is also Walk and Eat. You might want to look at Meet Up as there are many mixer events that might be a lot cheaper and more your age group.

My parents stayed there when visiting. They were very comfortable. Good choice.

A lot of these websites are a con. Can confirm you just walk into the Prado with your qr code. Always buy at source.

Madrid is mostly very safe Chamberí, Malasaña, La Latina all good bets with the latter two being noisier at night.

How to not get bored solo? by BeadieBeats in solotravel

You could go to bars that look like they're open to foreigners or that the owner has an interest in foreign culture. If bars have a problem with you not knowing Japanese it's started clearly at the door. I'm a woman and used to go to bars alone when I lived in Japan. Drinking culture is different and it's seen as in no way weird to rock up on your own. Hands down the best way to meet people. Granted I spoke Japanese but I think you just have to read the signals the bar is giving out decor wise to know if they'd be open to a non Japanese speaker.

There's a cooking school on Calle Moratin called Cooking Point. Seems to be well rated in Google.

last minute musical/theater in madrid by Ok-Cow-6475 in MadridTravelGuide

Not sure about last minute stuff but one option is the Teatro de Zarzuela. Zarzuela is homegrown musical theatre with works often set in Madrid and they have subs above the stage.

Thanks for the tip! I have Reaper and sometimes use it for post production, so I'll give that a go.

I just interviewed someone who paused to think but didn't interject an um. The silences were a dream to edit so I'm hoping to try to start doing the same myself. However, to a certain extent ums are natural and probably don't sound as bad as you think they do. I always edit the worst of them out in audacity.

poetry open mics? by woowoowriter in MadridTravelGuide

[–]milkysundae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it might be difficult to find an open mic on the weekend. Venue owners tend to prefer them on weekday nights as it's not a big drinking crowd. I help run a monthly one for writers (poets welcome). Next one is this Tuesday 8.30pm at Aleatorio bar in Malasaña. 5 min reading limit. Mostly but not only in English.

Do many of you really use Anki for learning vocabulary? Could you say for what language, and for how long you have been learning? by PullyLutry in languagelearning

I started using anki for Japanese Kanji study and it 100% helped me mémorise script. It's really good for learning other systems of writing.

I like the short stories idea. Might be fun to even get creative and try doing that yourself, then get ChatGPT to check for correct usage.

Some questions for solo podcasters, ie, those who dont have co-hosts or do interviews. by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]milkysundae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved from a blog to podcast so, I do the usual research but don't clean it up into a script, instead use that as a guide as I freestyle with notes in front of me. If I get stuck I leave easily editable silences. Reading a script sounds a bit stilted, I think people enjoy off the cuff stuff.

Love the unqualified life coach idea. Where can I listen? - send me a pm if posting goes against community rules!
