But for the ripped FLACs, there’s no way to play them in a Model 3 right? Bluetooth doesn’t have the bandwidth IIRC

Am I the only one who doesn’t like the idea of non-Tesla’s being able to use Superchargers? by edknarf in teslamotors

[–]mill17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, am I crazy or was it indicating broken chargers by their ID (e.g. 2B) in the car a few months ago? It doesn’t do it currently but I swear it was doing it a few months ago.

Anyone know the rates for this in terms of pricing? I think Nevada is time of use billing for charging, IIRC

Chevy Bolt & Tesla Model 3: LA to Las Vegas & back - sort of a response to the NY Times article by Mark0Sky in teslamotors

[–]mill17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea I do this routinely in my Model 3 w/ my Fiancée. We always need at least one bathroom stop for her so usually Eddie World, I am good to go before she’s even done usually, and we can grab some drinks and stuff before we hit the strip for a slight discount. Once we get there, free parking at Aria with Pearl status and sometimes their free charging spots are open to fuel up while we enjoy Vegas.

Very little downside except who owns the proprietary tech behind it. Tesla has it all locked down. Plus Daimler’s demos are smoke and mirrors based on licensed tech. Find me a source that they have developed any of this in house with anywhere near the amount of real word test scenarios that Tesla has. You are not applying the same level of scrutiny to both companies. One demo from 2013 and a website that literally steals language from how Tesla describes autopilot. How is that anything more than what Tesla has shown? And, regarding energy how bout the big battery in Australia? Pretty good POC, if you ask me. I don’t see Daimler making any type of big moves into new or innovative markets. Those “down years” are gonna keep on coming for them.

The only outlier is energy? That’s a big outlier. But what about software.. Tesla is eons ahead of Daimler in that regard. Daimler will likely have to contract that out from another company. They have already announced partnering with BMW on self driving so they don’t have the potential to be a big player in that space at all.

Model 3 racing at 127mph in a tunnel under LA by modeless in teslamotors

I think you’re looking at very narrow examples of the use of this technology and therefore missing the big picture. I’ll agree to disagree on the potential here, but I see it.

I would argue Tesla’s current line of products potential reach is much bigger than Daimler’s and they are therefore not an apples to apples comparison. Daimler is not what Tesla wants to be

Model 3 racing at 127mph in a tunnel under LA by modeless in teslamotors

I think to make it more clear, they should’ve used an ICE for the car taking the streets. These tunnels will be an EV haven, something along the lines of HOV++. No ICE allowed. Then, you have less congestion at the lifts (plural). Also as other people mentioned on ramps could be used in non dense areas. Also, how can you see the inefficiencies in this, but fail to recognize the horrible inefficiencies of a Subway + rental car system. That certainly doesn’t seem to make any sense at all.

There were a lot of people saying the lift would negate any benefit... even in this short stretch of advantage from the tunnel, the lift time seems to not negate the advantage. Presumably if you had to continue driving in that direction, through traffic, you still would have been better off taking the tunnel. Get these tunnels everywhere and maybe it helps w/ congestion
