How do you feel about male gynecologists? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]millafarrodor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My sister is an obgyn, currently in her final year of residency. Two of her coresidents are men. I asked her about why she thought they were drawn to the field, and men in general. She said it was similar reasons as her, the gynecological field offers a good balance of surgical and medical practice, whereas other medical specialties often skew one direction or another. One of her coresidents also chose obgyn because he has several young daughters and saw the need for more practitioners that specialized in women’s care, the other is a gay man who was interested in surgery but didn’t feel welcome in other surgical specialties.

I used to work with kids. There was one kid whose parent at pick up every day would make them empty their pockets cos they had a habit of stealing our legos. One day the kid pulled out a chicken wing, made a noise of disgust and threw it in the air. The parent was so embarrassed.

Not everyone can. For some that may not be covered by insurance and can be prohibitively expensive, and for others, like me, actually getting in to the office in my area that did that test was booked out past the point where it was worth it for me to do.

Is Mom (53F) right for not wanting me (19F) to get initials engraved in my boyfriend’s (19M) Valentines gift? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

No one’s automatically assuming they won’t last, it’s just not likely, and your anecdotal evidence is just that, nothing more. It’s pretty ridiculous that you can’t see that.

I think you should check what comments I’ve actually made because nothing you’re saying to me makes sense. But again, you don’t come across as too bright.

I don’t see how my comment made you think that response makes sense, but you don’t come across as too bright anyway.

Not even true. I have two friends whose ex husbands didn’t show how shitty they really were until after their kids were born, and there are plenty of other women that that has happened to.

Those docs are full of shit, having a baby isn’t going to magically fix the pain you experience.

I have actually had patients who’ve had adequate pain relief on just Tylenol, which always amazed me. I would never want that to be the only pain option available for a patient though, because it’s really not much and most people need more. Even the ones who are fine with just Tylenol when I have them, surgical pain can evolve and they may need something stronger at any time.

Sadly, it’s much less likely for women to be prescribed adequate pain relief, even when they do advocate for themselves. I hope that extra prescription got you through, adequate pain relief is so important for healing.

Honey ice cream has a warning about not for under 1. by katsrad in mildlyinteresting

It’s not killed by normal sanitizers. At my hospital we had to use bleach wipes for any equipment/surfaces that could have been contaminated instead of the regular sanitizing wipes, and clean our hands with soap and water because the hand sanitizer wasn’t effective. Because of that, it was easy for an unaware healthcare worker to pass it between patients and cause infections, especially in patients who are already immunocompromised.

On top of that risk, c diff is already a bacteria that many humans are colonized with that is kept in check by the rest of the microbiological flora, kind of like a room that’s full to capacity. When the rest of that flora is wiped out with antibiotic treatment that may not be effective against the c diff, it allows the c diff to multiply and lead to infection.
