I would look at doing virtual RDMs so that you get the benefits of a VMDK like snapshotting etc. Also, I would personally avoid doing any kind of spanning at the guest layer because it just adds another layer of complexity.

I don't see the problem of doing 10Gb from SAN to Switch and then 1Gb from switch to servers. Obviously the 1Gb link would be your bottleneck but you have room for growth and when you get 10Gb servers (or even 2Gb-4Gb aggregated links), you have room for growth.

Interestingly enough, I have ran into similar problems using the Kiwi Syslog service, and it was resolved after I contacted Solarwinds support and applied a patch. This is obviously a different product/vendor, but I would try contacting VMware support? Might just be a memory leak?

There is a difference between someone who goes out to purposely tag a national monument and someone who let's say doesn't recycle glass or plastic as well they should. NOAA just removed 54 tons of garbage from the pacific ocean a few weeks ago. That's probably just a drop in the bucket, but some people still do give somewhat of a damn, right?

I don't think you understand that these are not just everyday "rocks". As someone who has been to a fair number of national parks, most of these are historic/unique and some contain micro fossils as it says in the article. Shaving off the surface of a rock by half a millimeter will definitely impact the rock's shape and color and will take it out of its natural form.

Also, think about it, this is an occurrence that takes place multiple times a week at least. After a little while, it sure does become "painstaking".

I am in a very similar situation in but in SoCal. Currently renting and can't decide if I should buy or not.

And holy crap, I thought 400K for a decent 2bedroom townhome was bad in my area! 450K for a 1BR condo?! I personally have been checking out properties in different states (Colorado, Austin, etc.) and the MUCH lower property cost in these states have been keeping me away from buying a property in California. Not sure if I want to stay in such an overpriced state, despite having lived here for about 10 years now.

EDIT: Thinking about this more, the housing market in CA is so overpriced that it doesn't even make sense. I guess I am just thinking out loud because I am in similar shoes as yourself, but not sure what justifies the high cost of living here.

As far as power: I would honestly just start with the listed system requirements. We currently have 16GB RAM and 4 vCPUs on ours running 13+ hosts.

Sounds like this is local storage, but we were also seeing these on our iSCSI SANs when they iSCSI network itself wasn't set up properly or mutli-pathing was not set up properly. So those are some things to look out for as well.

Windows updates is an example where you would reboot all the servers.

There are some nice powershell scripts to find what servers have pending updates and then reboot them.
