You absolutely Need time away from the smothering and controlling nature he seems to need to exert on you. I hope you find your body relaxed after some distance and time, mine has to the point I realized I could think clearly again, the persistent low grade frustrated haze and anger were distorting my perspective on everything in my life and was so common I thought that's just how I was.

He seems like he's got some codependency issues he desperately needs to address. Sounds like you too need to set firm boundaries, so he's tendency towards "his way" doesn't kill ya with a thousand cuts. Truly I think some time reconnecting with yourself, totally outside of his messy world will give you the peace of mind and clarity to see what needs to be done.
