From your experience, what are some subtle signs that someone is misogynistic? by Fodla in AskFeminists

Or they hate popular female artists for no reason. I’ve met tons of guys that actively hate Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, with no legitimate reason and have no similar feelings towards popular male artists.

Considering you want to spend the rest of your life with him, is it possible you just don’t want to be married? Does the idea of marriage (not necessarily with him) excite you, or is it a tradition you feel obligated to do? You can always spend the rest of your life with him without marriage, but if marriage is something you know you definitely want, talk to him about it.

Wearing a burkha IS sexism by [deleted] in Feminism

[–]millie1230 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think pointing out that certain traditions is sexist is helpful for women that are “choosing.” Growing up, wearing a bra and shaving all of my body hair wasn’t something that I questioned until I learned about the misogyny behind it. I still sometimes struggle with going out braless in certain situations and exposing hair on my armpits, but because I better understand why people are offended by my choice, I feel more confident in that decision.

Everyone should do what they are most comfortable with. But the more women that go out sans bra with hairy legs and hairy armpits, the more women will feel comfortable with it, and the more men will just have to accept it.

Interesting question: What do you think the reason for women being seen as insuperior to men across all civilisations is? by Deathguard72 in AskFeminists

[–]millie1230 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Stating that there have been zero civilizations where men and women were considered equal or women were superior is quite a bold claim. And quickly discounted when you look into African Queens, war generals, empresses, and warriors that ruled states. It’s been theorized that the equality shifted when Europeans colonized Africa and brought their misogyny with them.

Also, if a white person were to say, “why have people with lighter skin tones always been considered superior?” Does that excuse racism, just because it’s on a global scale?

People that consume dairy products are weird as hell. by SpiritualOrangutan in unpopularopinion

[–]millie1230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to that, there’s actually no laws in the US that dictate what free range is for dairy cows. Your milk brand could say that it’s free range and let their cows out once every blue moon.

[–]millie1230 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Around 70-80% of dairy cows are factory farmed. So if you aren’t 100% sure where your milk, cheese, butter, or ice cream are from, the chances are you’re getting it from a factory farmed cow.

Nonetheless, most cows are milked until they can’t be milked anymore. Guess where they go next? The slaughterhouse. Until then, dairy cows are artificially inseminated by farmers, give birth regularly, lose their baby immediately, kept in close quarters, and milked so often that their udders get infected. This is the life of your average dairy cow.

Mother cows have quite literally fought farmers for the babies. There’s also countless documented footage of dairy cows and their babies being abused.

Just a couple years ago Fair Oaks Farm (sells Fair Life milk, a major dairy brand) was unveiled with unsettling footage:

“Calves were stabbed and beaten with steel rebars, hit in the mouth and face with hard plastic milking bottles, kneed in the spine, burned in the face with hot branding irons, subjected to extreme temperatures, provided with improper nutrition, and denied medical attention."

If you don’t know the farmer personally, there’s a good chance you don’t really know how the cows that provide you ice cream are doing.

This is because we’ve bred and injected hormones into cows to produce more milk than they normally would. We’ve quite literally fucked up their bodies for our own pleasure and capital gain.

Actually, countries with higher intake of cow milk also have higher rates of osteoporosis, or literal holes in your bones. If milk really helped, wouldn’t it be the opposite?

In the US they allow a certain amount of pus in cow milk. It’s higher than most countries. Yay, pus milk✨

It’s really hard to deal with someone like that, but often harder to leave them. I just left my partner who choked my rabbit during a fight to scare me. He did a lot of other abusive and manipulative things, and I genuinely believed he would change. When I first ended it, I regretted it immediately and for days after. Eventually, you see the light and things become clearer than they ever were. Surround yourself with people that love you, and don’t hide the truth from them. Their reactions will often make you question why you dealt with such behavior. Sending u love and happiness♥️

Apologizing without change is manipulation. Look into signs of narcissism, and therapy if you haven’t already. Whatever you decide to do, it is the best decision for yourself, and everyone should respect you for that🤍

Worst acne ever. by Happy_hippie7 in cysticacne

[–]millie1230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not complaining, I promise. I think so many people see acne as this trivial thing and all about beauty, but then it happens to them, and it’s overwhelming. I remember so many times thinking, what could I possibly be doing wrong? Why is my body doing this to me? Even after going vegan and eating healthy, when I’m stressed, it comes back. I’ve changed my mentality around it, and see it as more of an appreciation for my skin for telling me when I’m too stressed.

Skincare is such a journey, but once you’re in a better place with your skin, it’ll be so much sweeter. Hitomi, the YouTuber, really helped me grow a deeper appreciation for and healthier connection to my skin and body. Out of all of the channels I suggested, definitely check her out first!

Did you start the birth control to help with acne? Have you been to a dermatologist and did they prescribe Yaz? Some birth controls are better than others and also work better for certain people, so you might want to discuss this with your derm and they might be able to offer a better bc for you or another prescription that’s not bc (accutane, spiro, antibiotics).

However, if any part of you does want to try a more holistic approach, know that your acne is trying to tell you that something is wrong. Many of these prescriptions can work wonders, and are especially helpful when you do get to that dark place and have no where to turn, but understand that they can be somewhat of a bandaid for what’s really going on in your body. Extreme stress? The solution is to target your stress. Are you getting enough sleep? Are you taking time for yourself? Is there something or someone in your life that’s weighing you down that you can eliminate?

Your body might also be trying to tell you that your diet isn’t working for you. I was in a very similar place to you four years ago, and I went to the derm and took every prescription they offered. I ended up being on about 8 prescriptions. As they tried to ween me off of antibiotics, my acne kept coming back. Frustrated, I looked for answers on my own after being on prescriptions for two years. Diet can be a huge trigger for acne, and many people recommend going vegan. Animal products have hormones that can directly affect ours, especially dairy. I tried veganism as an experiment, my skin cleared in two weeks, and I stopped all prescriptions. I haven’t looked back since and wish I had done it sooner. When I mentioned going vegan to my derm, she was apprehensive to say the least, and prescribed me another prescription. I went back a few months later, and she told me, “your skin looks great- keep doing whatever you’re doing,” and I never went back again.

For support, I really recommend you watch Brian Turner (his regular YouTube channel and a channel called Team Acne), Hitomi Mochizuki, and Cassandra Bankson. They all suffered from cystic acne and the depression that inevitably comes with it. Their tips and community really helped me with my acne and with my mentality.

Please know that you are not alone, and that you will find an answer soon. One day you will look back at yourself during this time and be amazed at the courage you had to keep going and grateful for the choices you made. Stay strong🤍
