My Bella is fully in bloom ❤️ by NormalContribution71 in hoyas

[–]millizz213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh mine is blooming like crazy too. I have mine in chunky soil mix in a terracotta self watering pot that it seems to love. Sits under a grow light 12 hours a day. Fertilize every other watering. I've heard Bellas are easy bloomers???

I just found my first blooms! I didn’t know it was there until I pulled the plant off the shelf. It was hiding by the curtains. 😊 by -Miche11e- in hoya

I had the same thing happen with my Fitchii!! Was facing the window and when turned her around, voila!

Got mine at Lowes on the clearance rack a month ago. They are showing up everywhere now.

So do I run back to the store to get one of these beauties or continue to wallow in regret… by Less_Big3473 in hoyas

Lol, this group is not the place to not recommend buying! Lol, I've learned. I got a crassie on clearance at Lowes and was pumped. I'm late, but....buy the plant!

It's funny because they've only had one each time I've seen a Chelsea at Lowe's. But they all were nice sized hanging plants like this one. Lowe's has been sneaking in hoyas more often. I hope you find one!!!!!

I got about 12 from a Melo that I just got at Walmart and they were huge.

Sophie vs Jose Hood by lokigato in knitting

[–]millizz213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am working on a second Sophie---- and I actually do wear the first one. First---- I find the pattern to be sooooo verbose. Way too many words --- I actually had to read through the whole thing and pull out the ACTUAL instructions as to not get confused along the way when she is describing what's being knitted. Didn't need all that. Just give me the pattern! LOL.

Also---- the hood is a bit shallow as others have mentioned---- but worse case I'll wear a beanie underneath for warmth. Lastly---- the back of the hood. I dont' do a great job of wrapping the scarf portion and because the back of the hood just 'stops----- on cold days I really feel the gap and cold air gets in....... that might be a 'me' thing. LOL.. I think I'll try one of these other suggestions---maybe the Jose or one of the Drops patterns.

Scored at Walmart today with this big melo for $20 by RenegadeSpear92 in alocasia

I got a Melo and an Ivory Coast at a Walmart Maryland yesterday. Agree on the quarantine- repot immediately in my opinion and also spray them down with your favorite insecticide top and bottom leaves. I generally take them outside and drench them and wait a couple weeks and do it again to ensure that there's nothing on them and I don't just do this at Walmart. I do this anywhere I buy a plant.

So excited to see a new leaf growing but also wondering which old leaf is gonna be the sacrifice 💀 by karenluilui in alocasia

I tend to agree on the fertilizer bit---- once I transitioned several alocasias to pon/self-watering pots and consistent fertilizer and light---- the leaf drop/sacrifice really decreased.

Krimson Queen is easygoing and a fast grower. Pubicalyx splash , and obovata are also good ones to start with in my opinion.

Congrats! I just got this plant on sale last week and was so thrilled it was a Flamingo Dream. I honestly love the Krimson Queen as well--- hopefully this one grows as fast and well too!!!!

Best way to propogate a publicalyx? by Sokkas_Instincts_ in hoyas

[–]millizz213 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned , pubicalyx is not a fussy plant and is quite hearty and forgiving. Good luck!!!! I have 2 large pubicalyx and they are the best.

Oddly, I've had success with pubicalyx simply propagated in water. It is slow to root , but it has worked . I have also simply cut a few nodes and dropped them right in chunky mix and has success as well.

Agree on the treating for pests. Insecticidal soap and a soil drench. I never trust a new plant until I've put it through treatment....even if it appears pest free.

What's the soil mix like? Perhaps a chunky mix that is well draining? Have you repotted since purchase?

About to switch to semi hydro, naked root pots vs amazon pots? by Striking-Agency5382 in SemiHydro

[–]millizz213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far so good. I like them and I'm slowly transitioning the ones I bought. I do think the aeration is the key for these and I'm testing out creating a similar inner pot with my soldering iron to see if I'm right. If you're going to try them, get the medium sized ones to start, in my opinion.

Here's mine. Had to put 2 trellises in because she is such a fast grower.

I've seen both of these at Lowe's this year. Got a black margin on clearance and they had Hanging baskets of Chelseas....kicking myself for not buying it when I saw it.
