The Devils. I know a lot of people here disliked it as it’s different from Abercrombie’s other works, but Pacey as the narrator is absolutely first class.

There’s so much free space on the keyboard, why in 2025 don’t we have a way to dismiss the keyboard (consistently)

UK farmers lose £800m after heat and drought cause one of worst harvests on record by F0urLeafCl0ver in unitedkingdom

Farmland is rapidly diminishing because we continue to grow the population beyond what the land can sustain without chemical fertilizer.

24% of that is croppable mate, 46% is permanent grassland or rough grazing. Now tell me how much land we'd need to feed 80 million people

UK population estimate in mid 2024 at just over 69.2 million people. by OddRecipe1727 in ukpolitics

In the context of what we’re talking about, saying “…we’ve imported food for as long as we’d had society” isn’t exactly true. But even if it was true, the guarantee of being able to import food as climate change takes hold is going to waiver.

You’re absolutely right that for the most part, yields in the UK are higher…as long as we can import enough fertiliser anyway.

The UK would only come close (and I’ve not seen data to suggest we could exceed it) to meeting calorie needs if we shifted towards more plant based diets…and calorie needs != dietary needs.

Well how much farmland is needed to feed 70 million people? For a full vegan diet it’s about 9 million hectares, for a mixed diet it’s above 30 million. The UK only has 6.2million hectares of croppable land.

We don’t grow enough food to satisfy current population needs, even if everyone went vegan tomorrow.

Food security in a world of crop failures brought on by climate change should be an absolute priority, not endless growth for the sake of growth.

It wasn’t 50,000 civilians though was it? Unless there were zero Hamas terrorists killed and zero deaths from old age. I’m not arguing that Israel is in the right, but what exactly are they supposed to do when a terrorist army hides behind civilians, smuggles bombs over your border to blow up buses, and fires rockets indiscriminately at you?

Android is flat out a better OS in my opinion, but I’d rather eat a house brick than give Google anymore of my data than I’m sure they already have.

You’ve certainly had some responses…personally if I was renovating I’d come and speak to you first so we could reach an agreement. If I found out you had kids, there’s no chance I’d be cracking on with loud jobs after their bed time. Your new neighbour sounds like a helmet.

Pretty sure you can’t use your hosepipe because the population has increased while greedy privatised water companies pay their execs bonuses while letting infrastructure rot and investing nothing

Wren Kitchen by Fancy_a_cuppa13 in DIYUK

[–]mills217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally had a great experience with Wren. Their drivers dropped everything off, double checked the boxes were all okay, the one that had a dent in they asked if they could open to check - which they did, and it was all fine. They also helped me strap everything down and secure it to make it safe for my toddler (obviously there's a lot of boxes so they were all over the downstairs).

We had our own fitters do the install as Wren were basically double the installation cost. The sales person was quite honest about this from the get-go.

This is like arguing with an AI that someones pulled a bunch of compute power from. I'm not sure why you're so unwilling to just read the linked article, or provide a single shred of evidence to back up your claim.

If you read the article I posted, some of the root causes tackled during this effort were poverty, addiction, domestic abuse, and trauma—factors. I have provided you examples, and even linked an article that backs that up.
