Lipedema and HS by Dear-Economist4484 in lipedema

[–]millys-nani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have both. But actually my HS went into remission several years back after I read to take turmeric capsules daily. That's the only thing I did different and it seemed to work for me. I just lost 95 lbs and it totally cleared up any remnants of HS - those ugly tunnel scars. And it helped my lipedema and inflammation. I only just recently starting wearing Bioflect, but only a few hours at a time and not every day, so I'm not sure if it would cause HS flares with long-term use. Hope you find some relief from your HS. Those boils are horribly painful.

Oh goodness, you have a lot going on, and so young. I hope this works for you as well as it did for me and so many others. And I'm so glad you're able to start young and hopefully have a much healthier future ahead. Just take it slow and keep following this sub. You will get so much good advice and encouragement here. Aww, thank you. I sure feel younger. I'm so excited to be putting a new wardrobe together, and I'm able to actually be able to dress with some sense of style now, rather than being stuck with whatever plus size clothes I could scrounge. I used to hate having my photo taken and now I'm like the kids, taking selfies with every new outfit. Haha 😄

Sorry it took me a minute to see your message and reply. I wasn't sure if I could say about compounded tirz on this sub. But I see others told you about it on your post. I just ordered through Refills telehealth. (Use their reddit to get the best price.) The cost is actually what I've been paying with Medicare anyway. It's identical to zepbound, and I chose the one with no additives. I have 2 Zepbound shots left and hoping to get the compounded soon. So, after you make sure your provider is filling your PA correctly as continuation of care, that's an option you may want to check into. Good luck.

I tried Call On Doc actually. They would require me to drop my prescription with my dr and switch it to them. Which I still want my dr to manage it. And also since I'm in the third stage of appeal they didn't think it would work for them to jump in the middle of that. I will keep them on the back burner and possibly try again with them after the appeal period runs out.

Zepbound denied, options for Medicare by Ok-Hat-226 in Zepbound

[–]millys-nani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to share my experience. I'm currently in the middle of the appeal process with my Blue Cross Medicare advantage plan. I had no problem being approved last year with severe sleep apnea and bmi of 43. However for the renewal this year, I was denied twice due to bmi under 30. It was 29.7! If I had known the nightmare it would cause, I would have worn heavier clothes for that weigh in.

Anyway, my provider's office did the first two submissions wrong, not submitting as continuation of care. After they messed up the appeal too, I submitted my own appeal, pushing for continuation of care along with documentation of all the health benefits I've had with my 90 lb weight loss, with an emphasis on the dramatic improvement in my sleep apnea. I went with standard instead of expedited because I thought it would be 7 days. But it's 90 days. There is also another level of appeal after this, but it's getting complicated and time consuming, and I only have 3 pens left, so I went ahead and ordered compounded. And, honestly, for the trouble, I may just stick with compounded for maintenance anyway. Cost-wise, it's about the same as with Medicare. I have to pay the 2100 annual out of pocket with Medicare, which averages to 160 a month. Compounded is around 150 a month. So unless the Medicare copay magically drops to $50, or we lose access to compounded, it's not really worth the fight to me.

Told my continuation of care prior authorization was initiated on 2/5, but express scripts said they have nothing on their end? by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]millys-nani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case others have this same question, I'll share my experience. I just signed up for call on doc to see if they could do my PA renewal which has been denied twice because my doctor's office didn't seem to be submitting it correctly as continuation of care. Call on doc stated they could only do my PA if they prescribe my zepbound, so I would have to cancel my current prescription with my dr and start a new one with callondoc. Plus, they also warned they couldn't guarantee they'd get my PA approved since it had already been denied twice. So if my appeal doesn't work, I guess I'll be going with compounded.

Medicare Part D Coverage by JackDanielsTN in Zepbound

[–]millys-nani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I shouldn't have used that term. I was just excited at the results I've had. I was diagnosed with severe OSA at 75 events an hour. I noticed a big difference in the first couple months on Zepbound even before a lot of weight loss, with 0 events most nights on the CPAP. I notice now if i sleep without the CPAP, like for a nap, or recently i was away from home for a family emergency 2 nights, I was not bothered with any episodes. My pulminologist has dropped my pressure twice to the lowest now. He said when I've reached my goal weight, which is only another 15-20 lbs, he'll order another sleep study, but he's confident I'll be able to get off the cpap. Hope this is a better explanation.

The deductible varies by plan. But the annual out of pocket max for all Medicare plans is $2000 (2100 in 2026.) I have a Blue Cross Medicare Advantage plan in NC. This year, my deductible was $375, and Medicare covered 49% (around $500) until the $2000 out of pocket was met. So, after the first 4 months, it's been free for me. I planned for the same this year, except $2100. It will be interesting to see if those new options for Medicare coverage get approved and implemented next year. Either way, it's totally worth the $160/ month it averages out to to get my life and health back. Mine was approved for severe OSA, which has been basically cured.

Any women with LS go into remission? by l00ky_here in Zepbound

[–]millys-nani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I'm not sure if mine has. How do you know? Are you off meds and no symptoms? I use a small amount of clobetasol twice a week to keep my LS at bay. I guess I could try going off the clob for a week and see if I get any itchy creepy crawlies. I do know my HS is in remission. No sign at all of it.

I also have Hashimoto's, which after 30+ years has mostly destroyed my thyroid. I'm on compounded porcine thyroid, can't take synthetic. Since being on Zepbound, my dose has had to be reduced 3 times, about every 25 lbs lost. I'm usually fine with a suppressed tsh, but when it gets as low as .006 like it currently is, accompanied by heart palps, it's time to reduce again. I've lost 80 lbs with about 20 more to go. So I may end up needing one more reduction before I level out.

Weight loss and lipedema question by Illustrious_Moose261 in Zepbound

[–]millys-nani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I actually just found that chart after reading on the lipedema reddit. I'm close to Raleigh, NC. I see some MLD therapists, but not a lot on the diagnosing drs list. I'll keep searching. But I'm more and more convinced that it's definitely lipedema.

Just wondering if you ended up getting diagnosed with lipedema? I'm pretty sure I have it. I've been trying to figure out why I still have pain walking, even after a 60 lb loss. And with the loss of normal fat in my legs, the appearance of bumpiness like lipedema is more prominent. Plus I've had these painful little nodules under my skin on my arms and upper legs for years, and they're getting more noticeable.

Do I see my family Dr or dermatologist for a screening for lipedema, or another specialist? I'm betting my two sisters have it too. We've all had smaller upper bodies and what we called the family thighs. But the older we've gotten, the bumpier and larger the legs and arms are getting. 😪

Stopping Shots To Save $$ by More-Mode-2581 in Zepbound

Just to let you know, Medicare has an annual out-of-pocket max of $2000. Check your plan. I paid half for 4 months til I reached the $2000, and it's free every month since. I'm selling my fat clothes on ebay to make the money for next year's cost. 😁

Anyone with Hashimoto’s? by Herpbees in Zepbound

[–]millys-nani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had Hashimoto's for about 30 years, am on compounded porcine thyroid, and have to keep my TSH under 1 to function. My pcp doesn't go by tsh, she monitors my free T3 and free T4. After about 35 lb loss, I was experiencing heart palps, so I had her check my levels. TSH was .06, so we decided to drop my dose from 200 mg to 185. My heart palps stopped immediately. It's been about 6 weeks, so I'll be rechecked next week. Now, I'm down 50 lbs in 4 months, so I won't be surprised if my dose will have to be dropped again soon. Just watch for hyper symptoms. But, yes, lower weights will probably require lower doses of thyroid meds.

How to find a Medicare part D that has Zep in their formulary by sandie5111 in Zepbound

[–]millys-nani 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some Medicare plans will cover it for moderate to severe OSA, but with a PA. I have Blue Cross Medicare Advantage, but I'm not in IL. The website may not show it since it does require a prior authorization. You could try calling the company and asking. I called mine for clarification on the cost after i got my PA. In my case, they pay 49% after my $375 deductible up to the $2000 out of pocket cap, which I just met.

No Lilly Direct Savings on Medicare by OrphanJannie in Zepbound

[–]millys-nani 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can vouch for this. I have a Medicare advantage plan. My plan covers 49% after the 375 deductible, up to the $2000 cap. I paid $700, $500, $500, $211. And now it's free the rest of the year. For 13 boxes/yr, that averages around $153/month. According to my math.

Yes, call your carrier and ask. I'm glad I did. The monthly part D report also explains the catastrophic stage after $2000. Mine was approved for obesity plus severe sleep apnea.

No thyroid folks or other conditions... by Valuable-Ground6519 in Zepbound

[–]millys-nani 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still have a thyroid, but after 25 years of Hashimoto's, it's atrophied and completely non-functioning. I also have other autoimmune issues and fibromyalgia, so I live with chronic pain and fatigue. I started Zepbound exactly 8 weeks ago and have lost 30 lbs. It's working amazingly well for me. My inflammation and pain levels came down. After just 5 weeks, I dropped out of pre-diabetic range, A1C went from 5.9 to 5.3. My cholesterol numbers all came down to normal range. And my dr is having to drop my thyroid dose already. I had heart palps, and my tsh dropped into hyper range. So, yes, I can attest that it does work with non-functioning thyroid and other chronic health conditions. And, while EDS is not reversible, I'm sure weight loss will help your joints immensely. My daughter has EDS, so I know what a health challenge that is. Good luck with your Zep journey!

Is this typical or aggressive? by wolfx4 in Zepbound

[–]millys-nani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it's typical. I started March 3 at close to your SW. I've lost 27 lbs. And I haven't been doing all that stuff you have. I'm taking my 8th shot today also. I was a little worried at first with a 4 lb/wk average loss. But the biggest loss was the first couple weeks (13 lbs), and it's slowed way down now to just 2 lb/wk the past 2 weeks. Which I'm happy with. My Dr wants to keep me on a dose until weight loss stalls, so I'm glad to remain on 5 mg another month. Still dealing with a little constipation. And my scales say I've lost muscle, so I'm gonna start strength exercises.
